Do I want an XP-E or an XP-G in my AAA ???

I decided to break down and order a new LD01, but then I notice that some stores (ie Wallbuys) have an LD01 * Emitter: Cree XP-G LED (R4), and others, such as the FenixStore has it in XP-E, and Ebay doesn’t say at all.

Is the Fenix Store going to have the newest version? Is XP-E the way to go?

Should I wait a year? Are the Houston Oilers going to win the World Series this year?

The LOD-CE that I carry on my key chain now is over 6 years old and is doing just great, so I question this purchase anyway, but you guys know how that goes, my old one claimed 50 lumens and about 8.5 hours on low (9 of the old lumens).

The new one will be much brighter at 72 real lumens, and it has a 3 lumen low that runs for 27 hours, a feature that I really like.

Which do I buy?

Not all that much help but the standard Bulletin Board reply is - If you can’t decide buy both.

XP-E would be narrower but less lumens, although the hotspot may be brighter.

The XP-G will be a little flooder and have slightly more lumens.

I would go for the XP-G myself as using them close up or even just at the ground in front of you, tight hostspots aren’t very nice for those uses.

From that description it sounds like the G would be better for me.

So nothing is really newer or different when buying at the Fenix store versus the XP-G at Wallbuys.

I think that’s a typo at Fenix Store. I think all LD01 have XPG inside.

The specs and the run times are described as the same, which makes me think (since I don’t know squat) that the one at the Fenix store may be the newer version for some reason, and it is the XP-E.

Here is their listing. Official Fenix Store | Original Brand Authorized Retailer since 2006

And here is the XP-G at Wallbuys WallBuys.com is for sale | HugeDomains

Whoa…., I can email them in the morning.

gotcha.

Ja. You got me. Sehr gut.

Whoops. Was thinking xpg-2’s :exmark:

Could be, I haven’t received a response from them yet but I noticed that the LD12 is an XP-G2.

My LD12 from Wallbuys is simply an XP-G (R5), whereas the Fenix store is XP-G2(R5), does that mean anything, is it a reason to buy at the Fenix store?

The xpg-2 is a more efficient emitter and will run brighter at the same current or longer at the same lumen output than the xpg.

Also a tighter hotspot.

Interesting, I suspicioned that there might be minor differences when buying what appears to be the same model at a discount site, but of course the 50% off at Wallbuys more than made up for that tiny difference.

This time though, I want to squeeze out every month’s of advancement that I can.

It turns out that the Fenix store version is an XP-E, they said that it replaced the G.

Hhm. That’s an interesting choice by Fenix. I guess they wanted to tighten up the beam.

My guess would be availability. Maybe not enough xpe2 in the tint they want. Just a guess.

seems like fenix is losing it
