I never really used mine, too cold and not throwy enough for my taste :confounded: it’s collecting dust in a drawer and wondered if you guys still use it in 2022 ![]()
Nope, and never did. It bought it just for fun, later put some sst40 in it for even more fun. Use time about… 10 minutes or so?
.
I live up in the sticks in mountain country and use mine daily for evening dog walks or any time I think I might have a predator around. I have an EDC in my shirt pocket 24/7 but if I sense some kind of issue outside, I’m grabbing the Q8.
I just used mine last weekend out by the campfire. Tailstand with a diffuser and shade for lattern duty.
I live in a small town, where predators are not yet totally wiped out. When I hear something in my backyard and I need some support from a wall of light I grab my Q8. Or my one foot long Trustfire TR-3T6 with its massive head ![]()
I used one of mine when we had a recent power outage. Other than that they just sit around unused, but that’s no different from most of my other lights ![]()
i don’t use it, but i just bought 4 519a because i dislike the stock xpl-hd 5000k
I use mine quite frequently on a tripod to illuminate a large area. Just last night I used it so some of my kids could scooter up and down a long driveway in the dark. It is very useful as a work light on a tripod.
Sold it after not using it much to go with a 3-cell like SP36 instead of 4-cell. Fits me better.
Yeah, we use it a lot still.
It does help having it modded with 4x LH351Ds ![]()
Now that you mention it, I kind of use the Q8 and SP 36 interchangeably. Whichever one is handy.
Modded mine with led4power board, maybe with some SST40s? I can’t remember.
Also use mine with a diffuser as a lantern or as a work light.
I do have one of the original first batch, i think its the only stock light i have. (next to a lot of lights i have)
The original XPL-3D is amazing
I had an original batch Q8. I sold it this year as the more compact Convoy M3-C can perform almost as well (notably in terms of sustained brightness) in a smaller package.
It’s my nightstand light. If anyone starts to steal my catalytic converter or come nosin around I point that at em.
Yup I use my Q8 quite regularly as my main outdoor light, I swap the battery tube over with my LT1 when I need to charge it, very handy having the interchangeability. (this might be a later Sofirn version?) and means I have two more lots of batteries ready to go.
I was using mine, then stopped for a bit and it drained the cells below 1v. I had flashed Anduril and it had the single-color aux light bug. Now it’s retired until I both get more cells and flash a fixed version of Anduril 2.
I still have an original Q8. I use it quite often around the property. It’s useful. It lights up an area when I need it to.
Lately it’s been in my truck. Folks around here have an awful time getting their high beams dimmed or their off road lights turned off for oncoming cars. The Q8 seems to remind them right quick.
I one day might get a small light bar for my truck. Hard to find a decent one, and when you do they aren’t cheap. Maybe put a few Q8’s in a few magnet mounts and I can mount them right outside the sunroof. Get the proper power run to them and let em rip.
Used mine also as a worklight on a tripod on monday.
The tripod hole and the better tailstand ability are the reasons hey I prefer it over my SP36 to light up a room.
Thanks Big_Sam for mentioning the inter-changeability between the tubes of Q8 and LT1. I have both and tried fitting the tube of LT1 to the head of the Q8, it fits nicely and it works. ![]()
