I keep a Streamlight ProTac 2AAA with two eneloop AAA’s in it in my glove box just in case I don’t have a light on me.
If I forget my light and I need one for work (I will definitely need one for work as I am a mechanic) I have that one there, just in case. If something happens and I don’t have a light on my person, that one will be there.
I run the batteries through a discharge/recharge cycle every few months to keep them fresh.
The Klarus P2A with Energizer Ultimate Lithium primaries. I love them for one simple reason - shelf life of over 10 years, and outstanding performance comparing to alkalines.
In the glovebox: JETBeam BA20 (2xAA) with 2 lithium primaries in it, and 4 extra. The JETBeam gives 270 lumens for more than an hour and a half, or 30 lumens for 35 hours. So six batteries is a lot of light, and since it regular AA’s I can get them almost anywhere.
I’m not sure. What is the difference between having a dedicated, emergency flashlight in my primary vehicle, and just having a Solarforce P1 in my glovebox?
Besides the iTP A3 R5 upgrade that’s always in my pocket, I have in my car:
MCU-C88 Q5 (should’ve upgraded it to XM-L a long time ago)
Akoray K-106 Q5
Fenix MC10 clone Q5
And a whole lot of cheap blinkies and fauxtons.
And even a small manual dynamo rechargeable one.
And lithium AA / button primaries for all, of course. With backup batteries.
I think I’m ready for the night.
Surefire G2 Tan with 2xCR123 primaries along with a 5 mode (H-M-L-SOS-Strobe) med voltage (4.2-8.4v) XP-G LED drop in. Some spare primaries kept in a spare holder.
solarforce l2 with forward clicky and single mode drop in in the console and an 18650 headlamp in the glove compartment. I have a thirty minute commute and work second shift (4pm-1am). The drive is primarily through farmland and there are no streetlights so if anything happens on the drive home, light is essential. Headlamps are a million times easier than flashlights when you need to change a tire, but the flashlight is better for quickly identifying things and also, my girlfriend refuses to wear a headlamp so if she’s with me she can take the flashlight.
I have a few of those cheap multi 5mm led lights that are about 3” diameter, use AAA cells and have a hook and magnet on the back. They provide enough light to see if a belts snapped, change a tire, read a book/map.
Unfortunately, I drive a daihatsu fourtrak (rocky for our American cousins) this thing believes breaking down is for other people, my Suzuki sj410 off roader has similar ideas and my transit work van carries all my work tools so light options are various.
The cheap little lights have been brilliant, one even got stuck to a bulkhead as an emergency got to light if I was stuck as two in a vehicle that refuses to die is overkill.
I have a 6D Maglite with a junk Terralux LED bulb. A 501A with a Solarforce low voltage XPG powered by CR123a and a headband for it. A Match Mini mag with a single mode XRE powerd by 2 AAs and an 3 mode X2000 with extra batteries for everything except the 6D Maglite.
The 6D is a dual purpose light weapon. The 501A with the headlamp is a work light it’s also nice for in the cab use stuff on low. The Mini mag is a back up work light. The X2000 is a strobe light zoomed out facing oncoming traffic and for zooming into crevasses in the engine compartment.
