Go to a driving school and tell them you want to make your license. Pay about 250€ (for theoretical lessons). Go to some civic institution, hand over a filled form, picture, some money, confirmation of first-aid-course and start taking theoretical and practical lessons at your driving school.
After at least 12*90min theoretical and usually 30*45min practical lessons, you may attempt the theoretical exam. Pay 90€. When your teacher thinks you are ready, pay 90€ to attempt practical lesson. Pass it, get your drivers license and pay your driving school the last 30*40€.
You now have your drivers license at the cheap price of about 1500€. I paid 1300€, most people I know pay about 1800€. I practiced on private property.
I made both together. NightCrawl wrote down, most things you need. He forgot:You need a visual test.
The theoretical test has 2 pages more, if you made both license together (some motorcycle specific questions on the 2 extra pages).
If you have passed the theoretical and the pratical test, you have your license for life time (you can lost it, if you made some big mistakes or some more small mistakes with you car for example drink to much).
Got mine at 16, we had a drivers education class in school, passed that (written exam + driving with the instructor for final). Then I went to the DMV (dept of motor vehicles) and took another written test and eye exam, then driving test with a cop. paid $20 and WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
That was 16 years ago so… things may have changed. Recently got my motorcycle license. It was easy, just took a written test at DMV and got Learning permit, came back a week later and took a road skills test on my motorbike. Got a new license made with a cool picture of me in riding gear for $45 (lasts for 8 years). VRoooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmm!
Paid like $300 or something for Driver’s Ed segment 1 which involves classes and driving with an instructor. At the end you take a multiple choice test. Then you have to log like 20 hours of driving with your parents and you take segment 2 which is IIRC 2 or 3 video sessions. After that you have to log another 30 hours for a total of 50 hours, take a road test with a private tester then take your proof of 50 hours and certificate of passing the road test to the Secretary of State, take a written test and eye exam and get your license.
IIRC, a buddy and I decided it was time for my permit. We went to the local State Police barracks and took (and passed) the written test. They gave me my learning permit. A couple weeks later I went back and took my driving exam and was a licensed, legal driver. Things sure were easy back in the day.
For my motorcycle license I decided I wanted a bike and found a nice Yamaha RD350 for a few hundred bucks. Picked it up in my brother’s pickup truck and took it home. Decided there was no time like the present to learn how to ride (never ridden a motorcycle prior to that) and took it out to the back roads. Inside of 1/2 an hour I was riding like a pro and the next day I went and took my driving test.
I could never understand how anyone could ever fail a written or driving test for their license. I know people that had to take it several times before passing. Some things just don’t come natural for some folks.
