I’ve recently been having fun with these small budget throwers. Enter the Rong Li flashlight. While it makes some exaggerated claims in the MFG SPECS. It is a very fun little budget thrower… It puts me in the mind of the Jacobs A60. Tho a bit smaller & less bright than the A60. $12 -$15 depending where it’s ordered from….
Yep, it's a pretty nice light. I got a couple from the Wallbuys sale (5$ each). If you like that you may want to check out the Xintd C8, it is the same size but over all a much nicer light.
Anybody else seeing black blocks where text should be in a couple of these posts? If I highlight the black blocks then I can read the text, nothing there that I see that would give reason for it to be hidden.
I have one of the Rong Li lights that I got from meritline several months ago for about $10. Altogether I have 9 of the C8 style lights that I sort out into ones that are great at the $10 point and then at the $20 and $30 price points.
I keep the Rong Li light near one of the back doors to my house. It is used nearly everyday by my wife and others who are looking after the cats.
It has worked fine and has a nice tight beam. The mixed OP/Smooth reflector seems like a good idea. The fact that it is plastic does not harm the beam. Mine is direct drive and pulls 3.8Amp at the tailcap with a fresh cell.
I consider the Rong Li a nice choice at the $10 price point and it performs as well as some others that cost $20.
At the $20 price point, I am most pleased with my Keygos KE-5. It pulls 3.6Amps, direct drive. Personally, I like it better than the popular Kaidomain C8.
My favorite C8 style lights in the $30 range are the XinTDs. I own 2 of them, the first was bought when they first came out and was on of the first batch of 25. I had that one upgraded by E1320 with his 5 mode, moon mode to 3.5Amp Nanjg 105C driver.
I like the XinTD so well that I bought a V3 when they came out.
Depending on your budget and other considerations, it is possible to get good serviceable flashlights in all three price ranges.
I have the ultrafire and U2 labeled C8 from wallbuys(for 5.14$ ) and was a bit suprised about the hybrid reflector.
On my Version the rubber boot feels a bit lousy, cant describe that correct. Its just not so tight like on the most other lights.
The stock lanyard is really nice, compared to the most other chinese lights.
As I understand it, the reflector being a few MM longer than a normal C8 concentrates the hotspot while also brightening the spill. The mixed OP/SMO refector smoothes out the spill while allowing for good throw from the smaller and more concentrated hot spot.
