Don't shoot your light...

….ever. No matter if it’s a toy gun, just don’t shoot your lights.

(Don’t ask me why, but I did just destroy my Stainless Steel C3 by shooting it with a BB gun.)

But got some amazing pictures:

… and hence my avatar.

Was it worth the shot? (no pun intended)
We’ll see…

Cheers!

That looks pretty cool, is that a GITD ring which is giving off the green aura?

Yup, you got it. It uses a GITD o-ring in front of the glass lens.

Do you know any lens replacements?

On mIne I simply ground down a plastic maglite lense.

FlashlightLens.com is pretty good, but stopped taking orders due to high levels of people reporting goods never arriving (fraud basically). I’m not sure if they have resumed taking orders though.

Cool. It reminds me of a lime or a kiwi slice.

Do you know the lens diameter? It would make it easier to find a lens for you.

I’ve tried a couple of the coated lenses from kaidomain - worth the extra dimes imo

Come up with a size Ive got some odd stuff in my junk drawer

That is one awesome picture!

man, i was about to pull the trigger on one too :stuck_out_tongue:

how did the emmiter and reflector handle it?

If worst comes to worst, I can make you a lens from single-sided AR coated acrylic. It’ll be 3mm thick, though.

Another easy replacement is if you have a stack of CD-R’s often times the bottom CD is a clear one. It’s easy enough to dremel a circle out of that material. Plus it’ll be made of real polycarbonate which is about as good a replacement material as any other.

Thanks!

Thanks for the offer, I’ll check it out when I go back hone.

Thanks for the website pointers and suggestions guys, appreciate it!

I didn’t even think that the glass would shatter, but after the shot sprinkles of glass snowed down and I had to clean it up very carefully.

Hahaha

The reflector and the emitter are fine, maybe I’ll take some wall shots of the beam profile.

I accidentally dedomed the LED (before the shot) and it has a nasty blue tint to it. :frowning:

Cheers!

Definitely worth it! That C3 is a small price to pay for an epic pic!

From my own experience, I have made several purchases over the years, and have always received my orders from them. Only a few days ago I e-mailed them about a custom sized ultra clear acrylic lens, and they responded within a day.

I haven’t heard of, or had any issues with flashlightlens.com, so I’m assuming business is as usual.

Cheers

I thought the lens in a C3 is the common 18mm diam that you see in most 1xAA lights. If so, you can get those most anywhere for very little cost.

FlashlightLens.com has good stuff but is damned expensive.

Thanks guys for your replies.

I guess I’ll just order a set of lenses from FT and not trouble Allthumbs.

Cheers!

I suggest you look at acrylic ones from FlashlightLens! They have several sizes and types, and can also cut to size as required.

Yeah they may be a little more expensive than the “cheapies” on DX, KD, etc … but in my experience over the years the FlashlightLens ones have been great. I’ve used the Ultra Clear AR coated acrylic ones, even on my 1000 lumen P60 flashlight (Torchlab triple XP-G Neutral), and they’ve worked perfectly without being affected by the heat.

Highly recommended if you want Good Quality lenses. FlashlightLens

Yes they are still in business, and I’ve read of other international buyers recently being very happy with their purchases from them.

I like their lenses too, but that would cost him $7.25 shipped. He can buy an entire new C3 SS for $12.04. And he can get a 10 pack of glass lenses for $1.39. I'm just sayin.

So tell us what were you doing that your light got shot… Inquiring minds want to know!

And so you don’t feel bad about it, I confess that I accidentally shot my dad’s 27” Sony Trinitron TV with a 38 special way back in the 1980’s :open_mouth:
