Dual Thrower/Flooder Light possible?

Hi All,

I have a feeling this idea would have been thought of already but I couldn’t find any posts related to it.

Would it be possible to create (or does there exist) a flashlight that can contain the ability to convert the flashlight instantly from a “flooder” mode to a “thrower” mode and vice versa? What I mean is that you can somehow build into the flashlight the ability to shift the lens in a way that it prioritizes throw or flood?

I may not be understanding the mechanics of things but I was just wondering. Would love any thoughts or corrections.

Right… There are also dual-beam lights that come with 2 sets of LEDs, one set throws and the other floods.

There are a number of lights on the market like the one you are asking about. Also a number that do both with separate emitters/reflectors in the same light. Here is a review for one of them I did sometime back.

No I don’t mean the zoomies. Those lose so much strength through the dissipation of the light when in flood mode.

I don’t think you understand how light works…
It is not unlimited.
When you spread it over a larger area it becomes dimmer, just like spreading butter on a piece of bread.

i have no recommendations, however
it led me to other historical posts which
reminded me how flashlights have become
so much better in performance and options
and so much cheaper for what used to be
the best available.

It’s a compromise, does not work well. There are other options.
