Duo-Lite 2xAA retro fit to LED? Help!

Hello all,
First post here, but have been lurking and learning. I’m new to the current world of flashlights, meaning I have several old Maglites. But, I’m dragging myself into this decade and have ordered a Sipik clone, and Olight aaa keychain light.

Question:
I have an old Duo-Lite 2xaa flashlight that fits just right in my Leatherman belt holster. I like it because it’s zoomable, and acts as a lantern when stretched out. I wonder if the Duo-Lite incandescent bulb can be removed and retro-fitted with a good, strong LED emitter (better than just a 5mm). The Duo-Lite is a twist on/off, but not with threads. It clicks on and off. I like it because it stretches to be a lantern.

Here’s a link to a picture:

Thoughts? Should I just let the past go and keep this dim but flexible light as a spare? Or, could it be modded to get more light? I’m wondering if a Maglite 2xaa LED insert would go in there. The switch differences make me scratch my head.

Thanks.

Welcome mizedog

Assuming this light takes a regular bulb there are a number of dropin parts that might work. I think what you are looking for might be known as a PR2 LED flange bulb.

There is a good starter thread here but some of the info is a bit dated. Nite-Ize products are still available I think. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?178595-complete-list-of-all-LED-PR-flange-drop-in-bulbs

The question is whether you really whether you want to spend much on this old light when you could get someting much more modern for only a little more.

Something like this http://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10001948/1347102-beam-light-diffuser-for-led-flashlights silcone diffuser on a regular 2AA light might work for your lantern equivalent or there are other brands such as Fenix which offer a "traffic wand" in red/orange.

Enjoy your time here.
