Eagle eye X5R USB charging issues....

My X5r won’t charge correctly (or at all). When I plug in the micro USB (have tried at least 10, with different wall chargers), the light turns bluish purple when I turn the switch on….NOT RED like it supposed to. And it won’t charge. I’ve had no problems charging the battery on a cheapo 18650 charger, but it refuses to charge correctly while plugged up to a USB wall charger of any kind. I’ve tried 1amp, 1.5, 2amp……same thing….just a purple glow coming from the mode switch.

I’ve also seen where someone took their battery out during the charging process and the bulb stayed on while being connected to the USB cable….mine just shuts off as soon as I unscrew the cap.

The battery I’m running in it is a LG HG2 INR18650 LiMn 3000mAh Flat top Battery –35 Amp

Any ideas?

When I charge my X5R, I turn it off with the side switch (by double clicking) connect the cable and it turns red. If I then push the tail button the blue led comes on also and it doesn’t charge.

Seems broken, sorry. Mine stays on too if I remove the battery.

This. My immediate thought was the OP did’t have the right combination of buttons.

The fact that you can’t run the light off the charger gives me doubt though.

There’s always the possibility of basic problems, like bad ground for the driver or a loose connection of some kind.

Has it always been like this, or was it working fine until recently?

It’s never worked correctly……I just figured it was charging “purple” instead of red, but went to pull the thing out after having charged it overnight (or so I thought), and it was nearly dead.

I typically turn it OFF at the tail switch, plug the USB in (nothing lights up), and then turn the tail switch on. I get the purple light….NO red at all.

After you plug in the usb cable, click the light on from the tail switch then click the side switch twice.

Try using the method khas posted

1. Turn the light on in any mode
2. Double click the side switch so the light shuts off
3. Connect usb cable

When I “double click” the side switch, it doesn’t shut off. It just goes up in mode, no matter how fast I “double tap” the side switch.

Hmm have you tried just plugging in the cable when the light is on?

I have an X5R at home I can play around with tonight, but there’s always the chance EE changed the UI

If I plug in the USB charger (no light on), it doesn’t glow or anything. The ONLY time it glows “purple” is when I have the USB cable plugged in and I turn on the tail switch. It will however blink RED if the voltage is low like normal.

I appreciate everyone’s suggestions. Kinda sucks, I’ve only had it a month. Great light, even ordered one last week for an in-law that got a promotion. Eager to see what his does. Even ordered a pair of X2R’s for us also.

At first I figured it was the battery, but the battery charges fine on a charger. And then I saw the video of someone pulling the battery out while it was “charging” and the power flowed through and left the light on. Mine just dies immediately when I unscrew the rear cap.

It ’s strange that the double click does not turn it off, what if you remove the head completely and connect it to the charger does the LED turn on ?

Nope, no LED….head is off, and plugged to functional charger.

I’ve tried everything…took it apart to make sure all connections were good. Mine will not shut off at all with a double tap of the side button. It won’t charge….

And btw, my X5R doesn’t turn off either when double clicking the side switch. Maybe a version thing.

I should have a new X5r today to try, along with X2r’s. We’ll see if this one works as it should. Mine will NOT stay on when plugged to USB………so it’s apparently not getting power cycled through the entire “system” or something. I don’t really know.
