I’ve been away from the flashlight scene for a number or months so am behind on what’s available.
I am looking for a 17 mm driver for one 18650 cell (likely a p60 drop in). I need to have the strobe readily available - eg. two clicks from any other mode and 2 clicks from off (or something like that). I have an army tech tiara (single aa) but it takes four clicks to get to strobe and that’s too long to alert traffic when walking.
I really don’t want sos mode and only need low, med, high along with strobe.
I’m unfamiliar with electronic switches and the like so if that is required perhaps you can point me to some information as to how they are assembled, parts required etc.
If all else fails I would consider buying a multiple aa light or single lion light with the above noted easily available strobe however I would prefer to build my own. I own a few convoy lights that could be re-purposed so that would be another option if necessary.
Takes the usual multiple clicks the first time to get it to strobe, then leave that on for 2+ seconds before you turn it off.
Then it will remember that and come on strobe when you switch it on the next time.
Of course one extra click and you’ve got to go through the steps again.
I use that all the time (with an amber LED) in pedestriam crossings — day and night. I’ve had drivers stop to tell me how visible it is and ask where to get them.
Thanks for the reply - I have at least two lights like that that are plenty bright. One is a Convoy C8 and the other is a solarforce l2t (p60 module). They certainly would get attention however as you say if you want another mode then you have to cycle through them.
I noticed a single aa light that may have decent modes for this purpose - the Solarstorm sc01. I will check and see if it’s available in 18650 form.
I carried a fenix headlamp in my hand the other night for some reason and we had real difficulty getting the attention of driver’s in a light controlled crosswalk. From here on I will take one of my brightest lights. In light conditions at dusk it takes quite a bright light to be really visible.
The solarstorm (fasttech) sc02 is a possibility however the max lumens seems a bit low - 580 lumens and 1500 ma draw - would be nice to have it at about 2500 ma at max.
Will keep looking. A multiple aa model would also be worth considering - It appears that the two fenix models using 4 aa’s don’t have strobe.
