I bought 18650 style flashlights for all 5 of my groomsmen. The lights I happened 2 buy were the BLF A6.
I’m now second guessing that being all of them are cops and they’d use them as their primary or back up duty lights. Basically meaning I’m not sure if I trust a $25 flashlight. I did buy them each a Panasonic protected cell and Nitecore chargers. So there’s no worry there.
Should I really be this concerned on reliability? If so what are other recommendations for a 1x 18650 light that’s very reliable, black in color, is 1000+ lumens, and pretty reliable?
Very few lights of manageable size ( read duty belt carry) for single 18650 cell
actually put out 1000 lumens.
IMHO-if you revise this specification, you will get a much better list of candidate lights.
I have a S30 and I find the UI to finicky to be used in non calm conditions. It is to easy to go past or miss the setting you want. The Olight Striker is even worse. I don’t think I have ever managed to get the low setting at the first or even second attempt. The BLF A6 may have to many settings but they are at least in the right order and easy to go through. I do wish we had used Eagle Eye as the maker though as they do seem to be slightly better made products.
If I were spending my money I would go for Fenix PD35 Tac.
I genuinely don’t think the build quality of Surefire is really that much better considering the products are so vastly more expensive. It is diminishing returns. Sure an Aston Martin is better than a Jaguar but the Jaguar can pretty much do the same job at a quarter of the budget and nobody feels short changed in a Jag do they?
Most of the police I know are issued pretty poor lights so the EE would be an improvement. The mid level brands like Olight,ThruNite, Nitecore...Should be as reliable as a Surefire.
I may be a little innocent on what is crucial in a cop’s life but what abouyt a Convoy S ?
They are tough, you can choose current, UI, tint…thay also have reverse and low voltage protection, a tactical switch and reliable waterproofness !
You can even lost it without worrying too much about the price.
The Lumen output may not be the critical factor—Keep in mind other features that are important to LEO’s.
The original Surefire 6P was designed for floody output—so that it could illuminate
most of an interior room without the need to sweep the beam from side to side.
I’ve got the p20 on the list to buy for myself lol, they do look like good lights. My wedding isn’t until may of 2016 so I have some time to figure this out but I’d rather do it sooner than later.
Sides cosmetics…what’s the difference between the p10 and p20
Your really should look at the PFlexPro lights. They are innocuous in looks, top notch in performance and thermal management. If you call or email Randy and let him know what you are thinking about for these gifts, he can help.
A set of S2+ 18350’s with XPL-HI running as hot as Randy will make them for you will give years of good service and be easy as all get out to carry on and off duty… I don’t know if you have ever seen DrJones guppydrv, which is what Randy puts in all of his lights, the strobe is very aggressive, and there are 20+ modes to choose from…
He also has the option to make the modes “lockable” with conductive paint, perfect for LEO’s who may only want one UI…
