I have a triple xpg S2 with Fet driver and it is very floody and around 1700lm. I used the clear triple carclo and the emitters are not dedomed, it’s to floody to be useful outside. I was so disappointed I didn’t build the triple xml for which I have already the parts laying around… It makes no sense to make these small triples, to less batterylife, too much depending on an imr battery and too much heat. That is why no manufacturer builds these. These are just fun for us and to show off a bit.

You may be correct that they are of no practical use to a collector or flashlight junkie BUT they are not useless. It depends on the need.

They are definitely not throwers (like a friend in Northern Michigan really needs…yeah you Luke ) but in n urban setting and/or even my case at work where I am never usually more than 20-30 meters at the most and very often much much closer than that that large flood of light is very useful and beneficial. 10% of my coworkers now carry triples (those that did not get the X6-SE). They use the mid levels unless they need 100% or are fooling around, and their batteries run all night.

Again, depends on the needs. Right now I always have at work….the EE A6 dedomed XPL, S6 Triple, and Fenix PD35 as a spare/loaner (can’t find my EE F30 ). Funny as it may sound…the correct light for the task makes my job much faster and easier.

Agreed. “pocket-rocket” triples are NOT useless.

Compact Triples are great for:

Finding things in the garage,

looking in the backyard,

taking out the trash

walking the dog (on lower power mode)

When you need the brightest possible short-range light in the smallest possible package.

Compact triples aren’t great for:

throwing long distances. My brightest small triple only throws 25k lux. Decent, but can’t be sustained due to heat and single cell. You’re better off with a wider reflector or an aspheric lens when throw is needed.

providing a large amount of floody light for an extended period. Triples are all about being compact. Most lack the heatsinking or battery capacity for extended runtime at full power. If you need 1500 lumens of light for 2 hours, you should use a different light.

And GREAT for CQ Tactical/ Defense, buying you precious second’s to get to your weapon.

I was looking at the S2+, and I thought the host is too small to take a 3x XP-L?

The 3x XP-L is 20mm, and the S2, S2+ and S3 all say 16mm MCPCB. Or am I being dense?

Does anyone have a build list? I’m TDY to the States but not for much longer. But looking at some of the builds, I’m not sure I can do this with just a soldering iron.

Like the S2, the S2+ needs a spacer for the MCPCB to bring the optics closer to the bezel.

Often 16mm mcpcb’s are fitted inside a lip of a pill with a larger OD of 20mm or more and by filing off this lip or using a spacer needed because triple optics are much shorter than single led optics or reflectors you will be able to use a 20mm triple mcpcb.

i see,the tripple xpl with optic is on good price on kaidomain for example….driver from banggood,also host…iam right?

hmm TIR is in stock, leds on a board are in stock, host is in stock, and the driver is in stock. (or maybe this one i don’t remember it’s been a while.)

most of it i can buy on kaidomain,banggood.and it will be faster.tripple xpl are on kd in much bette price.maybe different colour or what…but they are there…thanks anyway:))) i will go to make it happen:)

I have a Sunwayman M11R Sirius with a triple XP-G2 4000k … can really say I EDC it. But I took it camping last year and it never left my side. What a great light. I bought it from a user here. I usually only EDC AAA lights in my coin pocket. So this being a CR132a light I don’t.
