In another non-discussion post I saw someone question whether a something marked EDCgear was genuine EDCgear or a copy. Similar items marked EDCgear can be found in various online stores with prices varying by 100% to 500%.
Google Search for EDCgear brand, manufacturing, company, or trademark do not reveal any company behind the brand. EDCgear.co.uk is the closest match but it is a retailer of brand name survival gear.
Is EDCgear simply a generic category that any manufacturer can use for anything related to survival gear? Does genuine EDCgear exist? Which manufacturer?
It's a class of products, a marketing ploy, and probably also trademarked as well, so yes to the first question, yes to the second, and there are many, depending on what specific piece of gear you need.
Most of the time that's the case, or you have companies that do have a custom product created, but it's still usually a design similar to what's out there already under another name.
For example: http://edcplus.com/x60l-3mode-cool-white-u2-cree-xml2-p60-drop-in-for-surefire-p-167.html
I started a thread about EDCGear-branded products a while ago. You can see they are typically copies of popular designs, for Chinese market, and there are two basic logos (the pouncing fat cat is the newest).
I think DX and AliExpress used EDCGear as tag/keyword for searches. It is useful when bringing related products to market.
Thank you GeoCan46 for opening this thread and not discussion this in the Fasttech thread.
I like such small tools and bought a few of these in the past and will buy more. Like Chloe wrote many of these are copies of kickstarter projects like the TAD tool and some more. I don't need titanium tools and the shipping to Europe cost often the 3-4 price of the chinese stainless tool, which are ok for me.
