Everlasting quest for good drivers, found few with some amp draws, need help identifying

All we “break this to build this” modders are always looking for good drivers for our projects. For a long time I was looking for 2.8A or 3A buck drivers with prefferably three modes that can run from 3.6V to 9V and similar… Recently I’m thinking about upgrading my two Solarforce MMP-1 heads with XPG2 R5 and XML2 U2 LEDs and trying to figure out a good drivers for them…

So for XML2 U2 LED I will probably use KDv2 3.05A linear driver with two extra chips to total around 3.8A… AW 3100mAh should be quite potent for that kind of pull and should be a nice setup for shorter bursts and pretty much for annoying people around… with shaved LED dome and custom sprayed reflector to smooth out the beam, it should have nice throw with spill and a nice beam…

But for XPG2 R5 LED I’m not sure what to use… I was thinking about making it capable of running 2xLiIon cells for prolonged periods with even better throw from XML2 but much better runtimes… but the driver for that is hard to find…

MPP1 comes with single mode driver that I measured following amp draws:

4.1V 0.82A
6.1V 1.20A
8.3V 0.75A
9.4V 0.75A

Don’t know why 8.3V and 9.4V have the same amp draw but amp draw from two CR123 is very interesting and still safe. Does anyone knows approx amp to the LED based on this measurements ??? It apparently would be VERY good for XPG2 LED, overdriving it a little bit for that extra lumens and throw w/o problems with heating - the head is huge, aluminum reflector would be good for cooling plus I’m making custom copper heatsink to combine with poor aluminum that came in it originally.

I also have two more drivers that I pulled out of random chinese P60 dropins that I took measurements before I pull them appart…

KD XML U2 1-mode dropin that was rated for 3-18V had following draws:

4.1V 1.85A
6.1V 2.2 Amp (WAY over safe 1.5A constant current so very unsafe for primaries)
8.3V 1.0 Amp (this confuses me… that it pulls 2.2 amps from 2xCR123 but only 1A from 2xLiIon AW 18500)
9.5V 1.18 Amp (again, from 3xCR123 pulling more than from 2xLiIon batteries even with higher voltage)

Apparently KD has some weird buck regulation… can anyone figure out if this driver is good for anything based on the readings ???

Random XR-E 1 mode dropin (I believe it came with Aurora X-06 flashlight from DX that I ordered for lego parts)

4.2V 0.85 Amp (obviously out of regulation)
6.1V 1.9 Amps (above safety threshold for primaries even when fresh)
8.3V 1.55 Amp (this pull would indicate 3 Amps to the LED, if I’m not mistaken… but this was XR-E dropin… then this was WAY overdriven, lucky for me it didn’t burn out while I was testing it…

So anyone out there with similar quest for drivers, please share your opinions and suggestions. I believe I have a winner if I use original MPP1 driver with XPG2, I only don’t know what amperage the LED would see in that case. If it’s around 2 amps then that would turn it into very nice thrower but also around 400 OTF lumens in that case… AND it would be safe to use with 2xCR123 as well as 2xLiIon or even 3xCR123.
