I have found that BY FAR I use my smallest and lightest flashlights over 99.9% of the time on a daily basis.

Even though the big reflector type throwers WOW ME I hardly whip them out for what I now have concluded is a subconscious attempt to prevent disappointment and thoughts of technical inferiority when I do use my smallest and lightest flashlights.

I basically if I’m honest about it I don’t want to be reminded that what I hold in my hand feels “inadequate” in comparison to a particular big one every time I whip the small one out.

So I keep the big gun in the closet and the small one in my pants.

“Ooooooo look how bright this little sucker shines!” (But of course in comparison when the big one IS whipped out it’s NOT that truly bright at all. Who needs to be reminded of this all the time, man?)

Anybody else have this subtle flashlight inferiority complex envy deal going on?

only thing I dont like about using smaller lights is at night outdoors this time of year, insects hit your hands more, so I tend to use a longer light to get some distance from them.

Now that’s where bigger is definitely better. Never heard of your perspective though.

Insects suck. Especially mosquitoes.

For me it’s the Nitecore TIP (CRI). I use it 90% of the time when indoors.

Outdoors is a different story though.

So true for me too” nottawhackjob “. For many years all I used were small lights of all types. All AA and AAA batteries. But then LED’s made flashlight addiction unstoppable and the desire for bigger ones , FUN …. However the ones that are most worn are the smaller cheaper ones….

I got addicted to the high powered lights too, but after having a lot of fun playing with my DX80, I ended up selling it last week as I just feel a lot happier with my Thrunite V6 Catapult. For it's size it packs a good and useful beam that works for me. For edc, I just carry my pen light with me always and nothing more.

I personally think that most of lights would see a lot more use if they always had high CRI LEDs.

Which is why I will swap my BLF Q8’s 5000k 70CRI XPLs with 4000k R9070 Samsung LH351Ds. Will make for an absolutely beautiful light.

And why I swapped my Haikelite MT01 XHP50.2 with a Nichia 144AM high CRI.

They are much more attractive to use now.
