Fasttech Convoy emitters

I got my Convoy S2 in the mail today and it’s beautiful. I got the 1050mA version since I’ve got plenty of power throwers. I wanted this one to fill in the medium range of lumens that I’m currently lacking. But I’ve noticed something again… All the Convoys on Fasttech say XM-L emitters. But this S2 along with my C8 have had what looks like XM-L2 emitters. (I’m certainly not complaining!!) Just wondering if I’m just mistaken or if anyone else has noticed this. I think it’s great that they’re staying current with emitters, but it’s strange that they wouldn’t update their site to reflect that.

They're probably finally running out of XM-L's. I don't think they have anyone left that knows anything about flashlights.

Did they get rid of GEEK?

Consider yourself lucky, your getting a free emitter upgrade (probably as said they are running out of XM-L)

They probably still have some XM-L in stock so the next so many orders will be a lottery to which you will get and once the last XM-L is shipped they will update their site (or they are just lazy)

The combination of the small OP reflector and XM-L2 emitter makes this the floodiest light I have. It’s literally a wall of light. There’s hardly a hot spot. And honestly, I love it. And since it seems you’ll be getting a free emitter upgrade to an XM-L2, I’d say that if you don’t have one of these from Fasttech already, now is the time to get one. Mine was $13 shipped. Crazy value.

Which bin did you order? They have quite a few.

This one: S2 U2-1B 1050mA 2-group 3/5mode

Thanks! I don't really need an S2, but I'm tempted...

Sometimes its good to get things just because we desire them

I am eying Convoy S2 T4-7C myself. I really like warm tints. :cowboy_hat_face:

That's actually the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger at this point.

I prefer NW tints, so I may end up passing on this lotto. It's good for anybody that likes the cooler tints, though.

Co-workers and friends are always asking me where I buy my lights and how they could get one. When I have a tint I don’t like, I just simply sell it to them or gift it to them. They get the light they like and I get to try another one. Everybody is happy.

I assume they are lithium savvy (or lithium trainable)?

@bort

One of them just refused to learn anything about batteries. But since he works with me I act as his battery Sherpa and check and charge his 18650.

The other two friends took the time to read all the material I emailed them and learned all the steps necessary. I double checked their methods just to be on the safe side.

With a good protected battery and charger, through normal every day use, what would you have to do to be a danger to yourself or others?

They’ve got these option for tints: 1B, 5C, 7C.

Would neutral white be considered 3C?

I would have gotten a 5C if that's what you ordered; however, there's no indication that they're sending out XM-L2's in that bin.

Neutral to my eyes is more like a 4 or 5. 3 tends to have a fairly neutral hotspot but has a noticeable blue/purple tint outside of the hotspot. I've been using an XM-L2 T4-5B1 (80+ CRI), and it's my favorite so far. I would describe it as a milky white. This is just what I perceive. Everybody's different.

What’s odd is that when I directly compare my Convoy C8 and S2, the S2 looks whiter outside of the hotspot, even though they are of the same tint bin, 1B. The amperage they pull is different since the C8 is 2800mA and my S2 is 1050mA, but at comparable modes, the color is very different. Perhaps the (almost) lack of a hotspot on the S2 makes for a whiter light that’s more evenly spread out. I did a good 5 minute comparison last night and found the colors to be very different. That’s why I checked the packaging to make sure I actually had a 1B tint on the S2. I expected more of that bluish/purple like you mentioned.
