Not much difference in brightness or output pattern than those lights. The Roche uses the Nanjg driver as well but the HD2011 does not. While the HD2011 has better build quality than the 2100, the Roche and the Xiaozhi are way better build quality with nice, regulated drivers. The Xiaozhi/X-Power has better tint and output choices than the Roche for far less money.
How does this light compare with the Convoy S2/S3?

Not having this one or the S2 (I have an S3) that compares more with it, I'd say this is a slightly better host with double o-rings on each end and what appears to be more aggressive knurling.
Does anyone know if the Fasttech version has the same 2 mode group driver as the one on Fancyflashlights?
Or if it has a new ‘4 mode group’ one as advertised where you switch via a flash on low mode?
Or if it’s the one that can be set to one mode group by soldering between the negative and a star?
A lot of the recent offerings on FT are really nice quality for the price, but I don’t like the 2 or more mode groups circuit where you can accidentally switch groups if you change mode from low at the wrong time…

So it sounds like it was the way to go at one time, but not anymore? So now I’ve been dying of curiosity, what is the way to go now?
When people here talk about lumens of a light, how do we know if they are meaning the real number (is that called the ANSI Lumens?), or the fake number that the unscrupulous sellers just attach to the light?
This light is described as 640 lumens, is that real?
I’m not exactly sure how something gets and ANSI rating, if it has to be officially tested or something. :quest:
640 for an XM-L T6 driven at 1.75A seems about right.
I know for sure that almost always, the rated lumen amount it “emitter” not “out the front”.
These are emitter lumens based on approx 1.75Amps. It doesn’t take into account reflector, lense, driver or other losses. It’s probably around 500 OTF lumens.

Oh, thanks guys… I just ordered CW from FancyShmancy for $16 (like I need another light)… as I’m going to swap both driver and LED, I went for cheapest (but still salvage parts for other builds)… I believe I saw this host somewhere in DIY section w/o LED and electronics, can’t remember where…
I’m thinking Nichia 219 with NANJG 101-AK-A1 driver, 3 modes… should be a nice beater EDC…

I’ve been carrying one since christmas, with a 3c tint and the two groups its a really useful little light.
Currently this is the best deal on this light right? I’ve never ordered from them before is shipping very long with them

Are you able to tell me how to go about doing the mode change for the 4 mode FT version.
(I’ve nearly worn out the clicky trying every combo I could think of. D’oh!)
I’ve now got 3 of these. Very handy light and good on the bike.
Just want to get rid of the 5 mode.

If it is the Nanjg 105c driver then you bridge one of the stars to the corresponding mode of your choice. I do recall there was one driver however that bridging the stars does not do anything, which I confirmed by trying it, can’t remember which one it was. Hopefully you don’t have that one.

This is what Fast Tech spec:
Group 1 (2-Mode): 10% > 100; Group 2 (3-Mode): 5 > 30% > 100; Group 3 (3-Mode): 5 > 100% >Strobe; Group 4 (5-Mode): 5% > 30% > 100% > Strobe > SOS
So it shipped in Group 4 - I’m interested in Group 2 and Group 3.
How do I tell which star is which, and then what is the process?

The last 2 I got were plain, like the Xiaozhi.
Yes you have that solder bridge location right.
Mine also has the X-Power logo on the tail cap. I got the Xiaozhi host and put the 8*7135 Nanjg driver in it and bridged star #3 as well. Funny that unlike others have reported with their Xiaozhi’s, mine does not take a protected cell. It is the least favourite of my lights. It appears to be powder coated and not anodized, the O rings would get pinched, the knurling is not pronounced enough for my taste, etc. As a result I much prefer the Convoy’s for hosts.

I DID IT. My first mod.
I now have 2 with L/H/S for bike and 1 with L/M/H for around the house. Perfect.
I have to agree with you about protected batts - mine only take unprotected.
Although I do like the matt finish & feel and I really like the beam.
THe other thing I noticed when I stripped them to do the solder - The “Logo-ed” Xpower I got first has no O-ring in front of the lens.
The other 2 unlogo-ed ones have the O-ring in front of the lens.
Think I’ll have to get a Convoy, just to compare , you know :bigsmile:
