It’s a T6 (I haven’t seen the reviews of the newer ones) but it’s either something with the reflector or bad binning, it’s defiantly greenish (Still predominately blue, but with a ‘green’ hue).
Might be something to do with the way the driver does current regulation. Sometimes setups like this can have some ‘tint shifting’.
It’s not very noticeable until I do a head to head, but it’s definitely different.
There was a batch of TK35s with greenish tint. It’s the emitter, not reflector/driver. It shouldn’t happen with XM-L2. 2nd gen Cree emitters seem to be more consistent with their bins, I’ve never heard of greenish tints even in top bins, which was pretty common in 1st gen XP-G/XM-L.
I found in the specification: Turbo level will change to high level after 25mins working with security setting. The runtime for turbo level is accumlated time
I also agree with that… but it is quite unique flashlight. There are not many flashlights with 2x18650 in series which is so compact…
Some time ago I also thought it too expensive, but trying out different single 18650 flashlights, I was disappointed in the battery run-time and brigtness in all of them… I do not like that the brightness decreases together with battery voltage. Therefore, the only solution for me is flashlight with two Li-Ions in series, and Fenix TK35 in this category is one of the best option.
T6 is a brightness bin, has nothing to do with tint. If you got 0C, 2S, 2T, 1S, 1T, 1B, 1C, tint it is going to be greenish because that is how those tints are no matter of any LED generation or brightness bin. All those being cool whites.
So there are plenty of tints that can be greenish (more or less). It is the choice of the manufacturer, in this case Fenix to use them, they could have used other tints that are not greenish, they could have even went with something like 2B which are pretty white not green not blue.
1C tint and green hue? More - “predominately blue with a green hue”? Not really, 1C is actually pretty nice tint. It sounds more like 1S.
Besides - I know T6 itself has nothing to do with the tint. Thing is Fenix doesn’t state what tint bin they are using and some time ago there was a batch of TK35’s, T6 version, which had greenish tint. That’s it. That’s probably won’t happen with XM-L2 - they seem to be less susceptible to green.
Yes, my monitor shows it as yellow. I had a flashlight with 1C tint (but XP-G not XM-L) and it was yellowish, not greenish. So again, maybe it’s XM-L’s thing that it has more green hue than other emitters.
It is very difficult to identify - where Yellow tint ends and where Greenish tint starts… it also depends on the surface. I also tried two XM-L2 1C LEDs and in real life center beam looks more like yellowish (maybe even too yellowish)… but it also depends on the power, for example, when XM-L2 U2 1c is driven at ~2.9A it looks whiter than at 1A…
Actually, it seems that TK35 is quite easy modifiable (I meen LED swapping)
You can buy U2 860 lm version, and swap the LED to your favorite tint XM-L2…
How did you get the pill unscrewed? I got one here now - it's like it's glued! It's got 2 nice big hole slots for a needlenose, but I'm using all my strength and can't budge it. I'm assuming it unscrews CCW.
Mine came apart with no trouble. The reflector top with the LED lower might be locked together like a pair of over tightened locking nuts? Good luck, it’s a great light.
Hhmm, maybe, but it seems like it's just the pill super tightened in the housing, or I'm assuming it unscrews in the wrong direction. So do you recall if it was a CCW unscrew direction with the 2 holes in the pill on the battery + side (bottom of driver)?
