Final Thread for the TLF/BLF-Special Edition of the Sofirn SR23

A low volume special edition would probably cost over 80$, not really what at least this Forum should be about.

We have a great idea if nothing will work
a complete black D3AA with engravings (TLF/BLF EDITION 2026 - and a serial number).
Instead of engraving I’d also see golden lettering as a good choice.

A blackened titanium with stonewashing would look amazing.

1 Thank

For sure, but it would also be very expensive.

Maybe. Exclusivity is a double edged sword, I guess
all of Hank’s lights are essentially widely available “limited editions” already, I think it might go against his philosophy to gatekeep an “exclusively available” edition of a particular light. After all, what would make it special? A simple engraving saying TLF/BLF?

Not to beat a dead horse, but here’s a starter list of stuff that makes Emisar/Noctigon special already:

  1. configurability: aesthetics, exotic materials, emitters, power source, optics, spare parts
  2. ease of custom requests
  3. outstanding customer service as a 1 person company
  4. availability - priced relatively affordably, respective to the above points.
  5. flexibility - we expressed a demand for a kr1aa, and HANK DELIVERED. Sure, there might be some kinks to iron out, but Hank irons them out. He listens to the concerns and issues of the community and moves to adequately address the concerns.

A final point here: the contention of exclusivity on percieved value vs. actual cost
a larger company like sofirn might want you to scale up so they can piece match. I.e., if there are 500 interested individuals, chances are they could make the same money on 500 more individuals by scale. You know how these companies work
“since the line is configured already, just leave the special engraving off of it and pump out another thousand”.

You’d essentially be getting the same light minus the badge of exclusivity
they did it with the BLF A6, X5/X6, the Astrolux s41, and a few others I can’t remember off the top of my head
while it delivers enthusiast level performance to the unenlighened, it is also NOT truly exclusive. In my opinion, the best way to have it truly custom and limited is to send the base lights, commissioned to a member(s) of either forum who will treat the lights as hosts. Exotic LED, configs, certain engravings, finely tuned drivers, etc, call it the TLF/BLF “The Bad Batch”, where the batch of BLF/TLF members known for exemplary work come together to create the baddest exclusives. Limited quantities per request, FOMO rules

@Dc38 - I try to communicate with Hank for a try of a D3AA made from Bronze
that would be for sure an exclusive and special flashlight.

If that doesn’t work we maybe have the chance for an exclusive color option.

At least I also contacted Simon and asked for the possibility for a unique S21G.

With Sofirn and Wurkkos we’re done atm I think. :frowning:

2 Thanks

How about a custom light from FireFlyLite?

1 Thank

That could be discussed
but first we have to wait for the answers of Hank and Simon, I asked both of it today.

We had the same thing with the TLF Edition of the WK03.
We won’t bring 500 individuals on scale!

Personally, I’m not interested in “special edition” light that is just a standard model with a different anodizing color or some extra laser engraving (I actually like lights with no etching/markings at all - like a Convoy S2+ shorty or a Reylight). I can just order those myself and dial in every spec exactly the way I want (except for the unique color, which I honestly don’t care about that much anyway).

What would really catch my attention is a configuration that you normally can’t get, for example: a D3AA with a B35AM, a Hank light with a Lume buck + FET driver, a Hank light equipped with an LHP LED, or a Convoy light using a NTG/FFL/Hopthink LED and similar uncommon setups.

2 Thanks

I would love a light with the B35AM. That emitter is criminally underused.
Maybe even a quad light?.. That would be something special

2 Thanks

That is for sure noticed if Hank says “Yes” for the D3AA!

**I got answer from Simon!
He asked what special color for the anodisation (for the Aluminium battary tube) we want for the S21G with LHP73B with 20A-Driver?

My favorite custom color would be Gunmetal-Grey, but I’d also take MAO coating, Silver or Sand. **

1 Thank

Great work! S21G with 20A driver and LHP73B is a configuration currently not offered on Convoy page, so I’m interested :slightly_smiling_face:
Simon also has great prices and offers the best batteries currently available (Tenpower 50XG).

My favorite anodization color is silver (it’s easy to spot in my bag and hides scratches well). Convoy’s grey is also very nice (is that the gunmetal grey you were thinking of?).

I also like bright orange because it’s high-visibility. MAO, on the other hand, tends to scratch easily, isn’t very durable, and is more expensive.

Thank you.

How about Camo Blue and Copper?

1 Thank

What about stonewash copper for the head?
The complementary color for copper is teal - what about a darker teal?

I keep it in head
first we have to tell Simon a color for the Aluminium body - he asked for it.

Hey Jörg!
What is the TLF saying about the 20A Convoy? And how many people are interested over there?

The TLF voted for the LHP73B and the 20A-Driver!

I think atm we’ve 20-30 ppl that are interested in the S21G.
But I’ve a feeling, that we’ll have around 50 flashkights in the end, maybe more.

I wait for an answer from Hank, so we can also talk about a D3AA in Aluminium with a special anodisation color and a D3AA made from Bronze.
For both I’ll ask then about the Nichia B35AM inside with 4500K.

So if it all works, we’ll have in the end 3 Forums-Flashlights.

1 Thank

This might be a silly idea, but I was thinking, what about combining two different aluminum anodizing colors? For example, a silver or gunmetal-grey body with a black head.

This would visually mimic the aesthetic of CuTi lights while keeping costs low and preserving aluminum’s excellent thermal performance, which is significantly better than titanium or copper.

I asked Simon about mixing parts in different colors before, and at the time he said it wasn’t feasible. But if this were done as a larger batch, maybe it could work now.

2 Thanks

I keep it in mind.
At the moment we’ve the first 3 or 4 colors to offer them to Simon
but I wait for more votings.
Before I answer Simon about any color, I’ll post them here for voting.
