My S6 triple would have been my perfect EDC if it was able to tail stand... Well now mine can!
Tail is assembled in this pic!
At first I was using an o-ring and the wide part of an old switch button I cut off and it did work to make the button protrude a little less but that still didnt make it so it could stand up, I wouldn't say it could tail stand from just that, more like sometimes you could balance it.
Well today I had 10 minutes to mess with it (a rare thing to have a few minutes to work on my personal lights these days) and I had found this old brass ring, I believe it came out of a solarforce P60 but I have no clue, that slipped over the switch boot like it was made for it,
I put it all together and low and behold it worked PERFECTLY!
I did have to slightly sand down the retaining ring to get the tail to screw on all the way with the added height of the parts but it goes together fine without doing that and still covers the o-rings, just had a slight body->tail gap that some quick sanding took care of.
CNQG has a black 16x8 one, but it has a thicker flange at the bottom and is short enough to allow tailstanding without any shims or spacers to muck things up. Site is offline right now, or I'd link to it...
Good work. I just recently completed my first triple build using an S6 too, great lights for that mod.
I decided to put in a forward clicky switch while i was at it which was a lot of extra hassle to get it to tailstand because the forward clicky is higher but i got it eventually after a lot of cursing, sanding and mucking around with different washers, o-rings & switch boots etc.
Now i’m not sure if i like the XP-G2 4C tint on mine as it seems a little too warm so i might change them to a cooler tint.
The quest for the perfect EDC continues…
Hm well now I feel like an idiot, I thought it was a thing that S6’s didn’t tail stand, neither of the two I’ve had would do it stock, both of them using the tiny omten reverse clicky (exact replacement for stock unmarked switch)
This particular one also came with a 17mm switch PCB and wouldn’t make contact well enough to work at anything above medium till I swapped in a 20mm PCB yet every S2 I’ve ever built has tail stood perfect and came with a 20mm switch PCB and needed nothing but the spring braided so IDK. I guess maybe this can help someone who might also have one that doesn’t tail stand (tho it is my luck that I could literally be the only one), shit gets confusing with so many different supplier’s of the same exact lights and those suppliers use different suppliers and the same lights get sold by multiple different name’s. Not complaining at all, making stuff work together is part of the hobby, just saying we shouldn’t expect consistency.
Anyway small sample size I know but I was under the impression that no S6’s could tail stand out of the box and this is a quick and free way to fix that should yours need it.
