I would really like keep one of these lights just one time, but I always end up selling them off. This time I'm keeping it.
Well, ok, that's my intention........ Ummm either that or send it to Anthony Maglica and see maybe I can get a real job, making custom Maglites. Not.......
Enough,
I really love Red. It's my favorite color. I have this 2D Red Maglite and I'm going to make it into another 1D, with some new ideas for some filework.
I just haven't decided yet to do it with the stock side switch or go with the tail switch. If I do the tail switch, then I am going to make two cuts (see photo), because that will better balance the knurled section left, between the front and back.
If I keep the side switch, I remove 55mm from the OAL. If I use the tail switch, I remove 90mm from the OAL.
Decisions, decisions.......
I will be building the whole light, since it's for me and I will give you the usual (too much detail), as I normally do.
More Later.................................................................................................

Well, I have done a little to the head. It's not polished good yet, but here's a couple shots of it.
There's a lot more file work to be done, this is just the begining and polishing is last.
Enjoy!

Finally got to do a little more work on my Red 1D Mag.
The cosmetics are done and now I have to start on the guts. LOL, I don't even have an emitter, since I sold them all, but I'm not going with a T6 anyhow.
Off to order parts..........
Later!

Finished the light tonight.
I put in an XM-L T4 LED from DigiKey. It's a 4,500K and I like it because it looks a little more like an incan.
I used one of the CNQG reflectors I had. I ended up making it a LOP, due to the inevitable rings that I hate so much. Now it has a good center spot and a lot of flood, but the flood isn't super bright, most is centered in the spot. Here's a shot of the reflector and some beam shots.
The indoors shot against the yucky yellow wall.
The Garage door shot.
Along side the house.
Up in the trees ahead, about 40 yards.
In the trees across the pond, about 80+ yards. There looks to be a lot of foreground light, well that's the streetlight right in front and to the right of me. They get real upset if I shoot out the streetlight just to get a dark area for beamshots.
I feel that this would be considered a shallow reflector and doing the LOP coating should have given a larger spot, but it didn't. This thing has a respectable spot that reaches out there and I'm surprised and pleased with it. I also feel that there's not enough difference between a T4 and a T6 to worry about. Direct drive with 3AA Eneloops helps, but I am using one of the budget chinese battery holders and the stock tailcap spring, so there's lots of resistance and this thing is still nice and bright. I even tried it with Alkalines too, and it's even brighter, although they sag quickly.
Ok, I'm done now.
