motivated from a guy (who destroyed his JM35 while opening) i tried again.
i did not fear failure and went the hard way…
the switch is press fit and after i managed to remove it with a new alligator wrench i found threads underneath…
so i removed the reflector and the MCPCB to damage as less components a possible i the worst case.
i used a file to flatten the retaining ring in the head on opposite sides to get better hold with my hand tools
(the vice clamped to my bench did not hold the force and slipped off)
using a heatgun to bring it onto 160°C (IR-thermometer), a long wrench and a big screwdriver through the longholes did the trick
took me a lot force (and i do not think i am weak) at the end - i was standing with a foot on the screwdriver while opening the head!
before i slipped off the filing did not look like a drunken monkey was working here…
i am sure thats the maximum amount of thread glue a thread can handle…
the guys did a great job cleaning it up after assembly!
there is even a Oring !
Lol, it looks like mine . Such a shame to destroy a nice flashlight. There is no way to remove driver without destroying the body. I was so angry when I saw amount of glue and aluminum residue inside. Sorry, but I completely forgot to send you pictures of my destroyed JM35. When failed to open mine I got so pissed that I hacked mine in half with a saw just to see what is inside.
I was really thinking about buying one to use as a host. The shelf is large and I like the “retaining ring” but I do not want to damage it to take it apart. Guess that one is off the list.
The Shadow JM35 MT-G2 (2x26650) is one of my favorite lights. Form-wise, it’s kind of a throwback to when D-cell Maglites were king. But it has a nice beam, is plenty bright, and is well-balanced for such a hefty flashlight.
