I’m wandering if there are any good places to get flashlights for free that I can then review… ? I’ve done a few small reviews before and know a few people who have got free stuff before… If anyone knows a good site or place to get some freebies for reviews or whatever, pls let me know…
Hopefully DX has learned that lesson. Remember that guy from mtbr that did a 'review'? His review didn't tell anything that you couldn't learn from the vendor's site, and didn't have any pictures. It was the most worthless review ever. While DX loses money on that, the rest of us lose out on a useful review.
So you think it best to not try to write reviews unless you know what u are writing about in detail… That’s fair enough. Sounds like there should be a forum where top reviewers could go and do reviews, ha…
It doesn't have to be a great review, but a review is useless if it doesn't tell me anything I can't figure out by reading the specs and looking at the pictures. The bar is pretty low, but somehow the guy I'm talking about failed to reach it. You can ask for tips on how to write reviews like a couple of us have, and you can revise your reviews as your ability to do them improves...I'm currently doing this with my first two reviews. I don't want to intimidate you. Some people here have some impossibly detailed and creative reviews, but your review doesn't have to reach that level to be valuable.
One thing you can do either way is write mini reviews for the lights you buy on Fasttech. That will give you a little experience, some feedback, and will get you a few cents back on your lights via rebate points.
Finding a company that will give you stuff to review is easy; once you prove that you have a track record.
If companies feel your reviews are decent; you can contact them or they might contact you. Here’s my last
review, no photos. That’s just my style.
Yeah, do a few of stuff you already have so you can provide links. Then just ask. Be prepared to not hear anything from about 75% of the companies you contact though. Or they can contact you, just like everyone has said. That’s my experience anyway.
I’ll take a look at “fasttech, thanks for the advice…”
And a Nice video bike light review. A pretty long review too. Well it seems like having a good track record and some good reviews under your belt is the best way to get stuff to review…
Thanks for the advice and I will attempt a small review when I get my hands on a good flashlight…
I generally prefer buying my own for review. If the flashlight sucks, I’m going to tell you in no uncertain terms that it sucks, and I will feel no remorse if the seller gets it to me slow, or it’s missing something, or I get a DOA unit, and so forth. That all goes in the review. I like being brutally honest without some unspoken expectation from the organization which sent it to me. That’s just what I prefer, and I’m not knocking how anyone else does it.
