Recently, I found a box of a few prototype FireSword flashlights I had made up a few years back. At that time I was using four Cree MCE LEDs, wired in series, powered from four 18650’s, and it was around 3000 lumens. I decided to put 12 Cree XP-G2 LEDs, mounted on four triple boards with triple optics. Powered from four 18650s, and 3 amps, light output is an approximate 6000 lumens, double what the original FireSword was. I know there are other options, like the XP-L. I do have some copper direct thermal path boards, but for the XP-G2 they are not really needed. I felt this was a good upgrade for this flashlight. I have not done much in the past with XP LEDs. I must say I’m impressed with this little LED.
I bored out the body a bit so it can accommodate any of todays fatter 18650’s.
I have about six of these prototype bodies left. These are anodized HAIII hard anodizing, black, no lettering or engraving on tail cap button.
