The light you have is a higher quality variant of the AA zomie clone which is available in all sorts of brands and prices. AFAIK it performs pretty decently and the 300lumens claim isn’t way off.

In order mod it you would probably have to invest in new led emitter and driver, and make sure there is sufficient heat sinking in the head to cool it down, It’s not impossible but in my opinion not worth the effort or cost, mostly because of the zomie head itself.

A common reflector is the way to go and if you check around the forum you’ll find great performing and inexpensive lights that can deliver the 500lm you’re looking for and even more. If you’re interested in a new light just let us know your budget.

Solid advice, my first light was a C8, zero regrets.
Chances are if you keep looking at this website you will own at least four or five more flashlights and another charger in the next 6 months.

There are several people here that post deals for flashlights, PM them use their codes. The Big Box stores do not hold a candle to the deals these guys can provide.

Good idea to buy a quality new light rather than putting work into your old one.

Check out the flashlight search function on Parametrek’s website.

You can specify price, battery type, lumens, beam type, number of modes, etc. and it will produce a list of suggestions.

After getting some suggestions, look for reviews on BLF and YouTube, and come back to ask questions to learn more about specific lights.

Honestly no need to think twice about it.
This is what you want.

And I would disregard the part about “excellent start for a newcomer”
it is an awesome light for anyone new or old, starting or not.
