Flashlight Boycott

If all BLF members stop buying flashlights will it lower the market prices ?

It will certainly lower the prices for those that stop buying them.

I’m pretty sure BLF isn’t even representative of even 10% of all the flashlight enthusiasts on the internet. You can always find russian, chinese, german etc. flashlight forums.
Plus going cold turkey on this buying addiction is going to be hard.

Maybe prices will lower by 10% if we all stop buying it, but if merchants see this post then they’ll just wait until we all crack (which won’t be long).

LOL!

Actually prices would go up. Prices keep coming down because they are selling so many. If they stopped selling as much some suppliers would go out of business and there would be less competition. The more lights sold means more manufactures, more suppliers, more retailers etc. Instead of 8-10 different versions of a C-8, we might have 2-3.

Initially prices would go down. If the demand is low, the supply will be high (speaking relatively) and prices would be low to get rid of the surplus of supply (or inventory, stock whatever you want to call it). However if the boycott lasted long enough to actually put some supplier out of business then that would severely affect supplier confidence and future outlook. This may cause a minute rise in prices, but certainly not a large enough one to make a difference. Prices would stay low, if businesses didn’t know that this boycott was intended to lower prices.

This is all theoretical economics, but once you go deeper it gets exponentially more complicated.

Slewfish - I know what your getting at and your correct when the variable is somewhat of a necessity. Unlike
the flashlight market, disputably. If we the flashaholics of the globe decided to switch hobbies i can say with fair certainty prices would go south in linear fashion.

Maybe we could boycott them to remove strobe and SOS modes, use better PWM and drive LEDs better

All that would happen is that the expensive models with all the bells and whistles would stop being produced.

If everyone boycotts BMW their prices aren’t going to match Toyotas. They will either go out of business (no demand) or produce a cheaper line of cars that won’t be any different than a Toyota.

The best way to lower prices somewhat is to purchase another (cheaper) brand instead of the one in question. In other words let competition and the market do its job.

I LOVE BLF ……….

+1
The price fluctuating you guys are seeing are small time sellers trying to make a few bucks on the things that do sell. From 18650s being sold at 2.50 marked up to $4.50. From flashlights being marked at 29.99-39.99 from 11.99-15.99. It’s not their fault if they get like 100+ orders a month compared to like 3-6 they normally do. TY BLF fanatics!

I put up this forum to see some answers from members. Main reason is because I bought a Ultrafire UF 2100 from a E1320 group but that went crazy on orders…. I like the light and wanted to get an extra as a host…… They were around $12.00 and now I have seen them up to over $30.00 …… Crazy

I guess It’s supply and demand !

The price increase on the UF2100 at DD wasn't caused by demand. $12 was a limited time promo price which has since ended. It is back to the normal price of around $15-$16.

agreed. they do promotion from time to time. mainly to boost sales.

XXX Fire factories could produce as much as required. There are no such huge demand that could really affect them. we are talking about flashlights here. not food or other necessities.

Machines are churning flashlight as we speak…
