Follow up to my last post | Suitable power source for 12x or 16x SFH55's in series

Would need 36/48v output DC and like ~10Ah or more. What would be the most cost effective solution for that? Willing to spend around ~$250 don’t care if the configuration is in series or single pack

There are plenty of off-the-shelf scooter / skateboard / e-bike packs being sold, and they often use good cells.

The best RC lipos for a reasonable price are made by SMC. Two of their 6s ~10Ah packs would cost less than $250 and would put you at 50.4V full charge, 36V discharged. I think they are transitioning to 4.35V HV packs as their standard offering, so those would give you 52.2V fully charged. You can easily wire them in series with an XT-90 series adapter cable.

The cheapest cells are from lithium reclaim / recycling companies, but that’s more of an option if you are willing to build your own pack. Usually you have to break down the reclaimed packs, get rid of bad cells, test the good cells, and group them by their performance characteristics. Check out JAG35 and Battery Hookup.

You can make a weldless DIY high power pack pretty easily with copperclad g10, or copper sheet, and using nice BeCu springs like from Intl-Outdoor.

If you want to go with new cells, 18650 battery store, liion wholesale, and IMR batteries all have some budget cells. “EVE 33V 18650 3200mAh 10A Battery” are $2.25 atm from 18650 battery store. 12s4p would cost $108. Liion wholesale has “DMEGC INR18650-29E 18650 10A Flat Top 2850mAh” for $2.29 each, which claim higher cycle life.

1 Thank

I think I’ll go with lipos since i’d prefer spot welding if i were to make a li-ion pack with 21700s but I don’t have one currently. Appreciate the info
