Always inform the Health Department, and include what you suspect and why, as well as any possibilities from the last few days. They compare notes with other areas, and this is how big food recalls get discovered and mapped. That can also lead to a single source/server or vendor/ who has affected others locally. Your prompt actions might save dozens to many thousands of people.

I’ve had several rounds of food poisoning and I now check for food recalls every few days to better avoid possible problems. I have some very bad reactions to certain common foods so I have to be careful anyway. Years back, the company I worked for did a remodel of a restaurant which got closed down for health problems. If you’d seen what I saw in that place you’d never eat out again, or at least you’d restrict it to chain restaurants who are sticklers for cleanliness.
