Per the subject line, this post will be of (possible?) interest for battery junkies only…
I would have posted this in the “Get a Life” section if there was one.

I don’t know how recent the information is (I see the Panasonic NCR 18650A 3100 on line 194 for example), but it may be of use to those of you recovering cells from laptop battery packs?

What did I learn?
I learned that the 18650 4.3 and 4.35 V cells that interest me are LiMn2O4 (lithium-ion-manganese) cells for the most part.
I learned that there are 2 versions of the LG 18650 2800 mAh “higher voltage” battery:
LG ICR18650 C2 (4.30V) (The orange one HKJ tested, marked as LGABC21865)
LG ICR18650 C1 (4.35V) (A mustard (tan?) covered cell marked as LGDC118650)

Why do I care?
Well I received a bunch of 2800 LG batteries I ordered from efest (powerwholesale) but the codes printed on my wrappers don’t match the pic on their website. The wrappers are the right colour, but mine have the code LGDAHB11865 printed on them (not LGDC118650); and my code appears to be for a 1500 mAh 4.20 V LG battery.

Efest did credit me for the price difference, so no problem there, but now I’m wondering what batteries I really have. (I can probably figure out if they’re 1500 or 2800 mAh by some simple run time tests, but I’d still like to know if I can charge them to a higher voltage since I’ve ordered the Cottonpickers 4.35V charger! My only tools are a decent quality multimeter, and whatever gray matter remains between my ears.

I suppose a rational person would probably just charge them to 4.2 V and enjoy whatever capacity they have, but I’m stuck with this gnawing desire to charge them to 4.35 V when I get my charger.

It’s way too late for me to get a life, but is there anyway to (safely) figure out if the cells i have can be charged to 4.35 V?

The best way to find out would be simply do a charge to 4.2 volts and then discharge to 3 volt tests. If you get around 1500 mah then it is a 4.2 volt battery but if you get say 2600 mah then it is most likely a 4.35 volt battery, in that case you could then try to charge it with the cotton pickers charger (while monitoring the battery of course).

My guess is that you got 1500mAh IMR cells now.

then I think you received 2800mah cells.

They are 4.35 VDC types.
