Hi Everyone, first time poster here… ( @raccoon It would be stellar if my hello image be of Aubrey Plaza or Walton Goggins )
So i have dabbled in electronics for a while ( ATTINY85 and Arduino type stuff) and have always resisted the itch to get a bench top power supply. Well, this past 6 months has been learning and experimenting with flashlights, drivers, emitters, all that jazz. So i figure i should bite the bullet and get a benchtop power supply. So my question is, what are the recommended specs for a power supply keeping in mind the flashlight enthusiast hobby? My other electronic hobbies (all DC, no AC) do not go much past breadboarding and arduino and running basic motors (5v-14v, 2A max).
I already have a passible DMM and I have ordered the SMD testing unit that @cheule recs UNI-T UT116C Digital Smart SMD. So those features I have taken care of.
If you want to rec a specific power supply, that would be helpful, I have about a $150 budget, could stretch is the extra benefit is there. However, a specs/features rec in the context of flashlight mods and testing would be more helpful so I can do my research. I would prefer it be available via amazon since I have rewards points but Ebay, Aliexpress, etc would be fine.
I’m glad you like it.
By the way, it takes some effort to make those greeting pics and it’s easier to do them in a batch.
The current batch has 25 female actresses and 25 male actors that I admire.
Looks like anything with reasonable quality and higher than a 300w is out of my price range. So ill probably end up going with a 60v 10a unit and purchase a separate buck stepper module i dont really see me trying to do any sustained turbo via prototyping anyway. Ramping up to 25a maybe 30a max should do me well for the next couple of years. Mostly i will work under 15a.
My favorite supply is the Siglent SPD3303X-E. But it’s relatively large and not budget.
Been using this one as a barebones supply and it’s fine for what I now use it for. Looks comparatively decent on a o-scope and my needs aren’t super critical anymore .
