This question has probably been answered, but there are so many threads and comments about the TINI that it’ll take too long to wade through them all.

This is for people who have owned a Nitecore TINI for awhile. The concern I’ve seen expressed more than any other is about how easily the thing can get accidentally turned on in a pocket. I know about how the 30-second cut-off feature might be a kind of safeguard for when that happens. What I want to know is how easily it actually does happen. So all speculation aside, is this something a potential buyer should be concerned about?

I carry mine in a little slip case I made for it but have had no problems with accidental activation. I wouldn’t worry about it.

The TINI is one of my favorite TINY lights.

The wife has one in her purse, clanging around with other stuff. No problems so far. I take it out every week to check and make sure it’s charged. It’s never been drained so I am assuming it’s never accidentally activated.

It gets turned on more than I like in my pocket but the 30 second cut off feature prevents total drain.

So a mixed bag. Thanks for the responses. I looked at the TIP for this very reason because it has a cover, but I don’t want to have to pull a cover off every time I use it.

It has turned on in my waistbag many times but it has not much space where I put it and there are many keys in the same space. That’s why I enabled demo mode (30 sec auto off) and it doesn’t matter anymore. Other than that, it’s my favorite keychain light.

Couldn’t Nitecore put a lockout on it? If you already have to hold one button to turn it on for two seconds, maybe they can program it so holding both buttons for a couple of seconds would lock and unlock it. Or maybe make the TIP with a cover that can be slid back with your thumb to uncover the buttons without sliding off.

I put it in my pant pocket and sometimes it light up when I sit down … I don’t really care…

Never has that problem. The 2 sec hold seems to work well.
Tube has lockout if it meets your needs.

I never had mine turned on in the pocket, i dont know how u manage it really, i use regular jeans and cant think of last time it turned on…

The other thing about the TIP is that in one of the two meta-modes (“daily” i think?) it only natively turns on for 30 seconds - you can access a stay-on mode, but as a default it’s short - so won’t just sit and drain on an accidental/unknown power-on.

eh now that i think of it, i dont own a tini, just the tube and tip sry got confused with all the similar names, but still those 2 never had them turned on in pockets etc… o well

I accidentally turn on several times in the crowded malls, when i lean against the glass display counter or wooden desk. Frankly speaking, it did make me like an idiot for not noticing "mysterious light" shining near my groin area (i had it on my keychain, hooked to my belt loop).

I have it on the necklace. Turns on accidentally from time to time. Not a problem really, but I find the 3-second turn-on (I don’t believe it’s 2) to very annoying. And yet insufficient. Sign of a bad design……
Yeah, in a way I really like the Tini, but the slow turning on is a huge drawback.

Hmmm…
This is why i haven’t bought one yet…
I have a TIP, which doesn’t turn on easily by mistake.
It apparently has better buttons for the job.
I dislike the 2 second delay idea too.
Silly way to compensate for the “feather touch” switches…
But the Cu version is $25.28 at FastTech at the moment (strangely enough 4½ bucks cheaper than the aluminum version), so i’m reading the TINI topics now.

I guess i’ll wait some more… Prices should go down a bit in time, right?

I like how one can use it one-handed.
Something like a 2-click should be about as fallable (which is not a problem for me) and much quicker to us.
I also hate the demo mode that turns on accidentally from time to time.

But I love the combination of low weight, high capacity, built-in charger and high output….
I keep switching.between Tini and Hobi….
