Found some Luminus CBT-140-W LEDs for cheap on eBay...

Bought 5 for $10 each, shipped! Should make for some fun experimenting. The completely round LES is pretty cool; a quickie test with a Fresnel lens produced a perfectly round and sharply defined beam. Have absolutely no clue what I’ll use these for yet, but I’m thinking remotely-adjustable-width beam spotlights. Amazingly, while these have a factory rated max current of 28A, they can run at only 1A so I hope to take advantage of this with dimming as well.

Oh these used ones?

Even used I think it’s a pretty good deal. If the stated luminance at 60000 hours is 70%, as long as these weren’t abused tey should have a lot of usable life left… At least for a hacker like me…

Same seller is also selling some CBT-120 blue LEDs although in not as good a shape. Still for the price it won’t be a big loss if one gets fried. Got some anyways for a little “fun.” Actually got them to test out some ideas to pump at least 30A into these things. Hope the only thing lighting up blue is not magic smoke! Practice LEDs if you will for the CFT-90

Do you think that with some lenses I could get a nice off-road spot light with these? Which lenses would work? Something with 10-15degree angle…for throw…

Remember, they are very inefficient...

But still, they are very cool when combined with an aspheric.
