Friend wants a new bike light

He currently is using this ATC 1000 Lumen XM-L Bike Light but is looking at this Sky Ray 3x XML or this 3x XM-L Light I know nothing of bike lights so I figured I would ask you all since I know we have a lot of bikers here. Any suggestions, <$100 is what he wants to spend. Thanks!

Just curious. But all you guys using high lumen ‘bike’ lights. Do you use them on the roads? I only ask as a few years ago I almost had a collision with a cyclist - I couldn’t see them. Not because it was too dark, but it was due to way too much blinding light from whatever aircraft spotting spot lamp they’d mounted to the front of their bike. It was so dazzling I couldn’t even see the road infront of me, let alone pin point where they actually where.

Sorry for the de-rail…

My favorite bike light is currently an Xin TD V3 with a sputtered reflector , held in place with a Twofish Lockblock .

I have the S6 on the way. A lot depends on the type riding your friend does. Technical mountain biking has a completely different set of needs over trail or road riding. I do mostly road and light trail on night rides, so a good combination for me (always carry at least two lights) is something like the Shadow BL-21 on one side of the bars with a more throwy torch on the other, like a L2P or Shadow JM07. Output of the Shadow is not going to be much more than what your friend is currently using, however, might even be less. Unless he is having issues with the ATC, he might try just supplementing it with a good torch that throws.

The S6 is going to put out a lot more light, probably double either of these two choices, but I haven't actually used it yet so I can't recommend it for now.
