Ganzo is releasing their first designer knife soon:

What makes it a designer knife?

The shape of blade and handle looks like Gocomma knockoff, which was probably a knockoff of yet something else. I still don’t see anything ‘designer’ about it.

That may well be the case but they claim it is their first designer knife. Looking at their instagram posts, it looks like it was designed by a youtuber.

Hi Blind-eye, I also saw this new model on their website, it`s nice one, and then tried to find where to buy that and found it on Amazon Amazon.com: GANZO Firebird
Maybe could you advise any other place where to buy?

What’s the model number of this new designer knife?

AFAIK the FH71 and the designer knife haven’t been released yet. When they do they should be available on power cutlery/aliexpress/gearbest/etc.
:edit: It looks like the FH71 has been released but is currently unavailable from distributors.

Perhaps, JackyNic can clarify his post and link to Amazon where he said he found them.
I didn’t, but then I didn’t know which model to look for.

I looked on Ganzo’s instagram page for more news and found out that they are releasing an updated version of the G727. The new model is essentially the Ontario Rat II in size. They are also coming out with a 3” FH11. Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/ganzoknife/

A company known for ripping off existing designs now want to do collaborations with knife designers? Something tells me very few designers will be interested

I still prefer the size of the G727M to the new smaller Rat2 sized version.

Something tells you that? Well, they found some designers already.
No big names but some semi-professionals who maybe could never build their own line on their own.
If I was into designing knives I wouldn’t care of it’s Ganzo or SRM, bigger chance to get a chance than with the “big names” I assume.
Too bad I’m just into making stuff but not into designing an entire knife

No self-respecting designer should work with a company that blatantly disrespects intellectual property. Ganzo’s bread & butter is to steal/copy designs. Not just take a little bit of inspiration, most of their products are shameless rip-offs.
If they are happy to rip-off designs from every company, what will stop them from ripping off the designs of their “collaborators” ? Probably they will pay him once, then take his name off the knife and continue selling it without paying royalties. Make many different variations and sizes without acknowledging the original designer.
It would be foolish for a designer to work with such a company, their reputation will be tarnished forever.

Well, you think this way. Imagine a hobby knife maker who just makes knives in his garage or a hobbyist using his computer to design knives.
Now there comes this big company and makes him an offer to become a “name”
You really think no-one would jump on that? They found a guy from some former USSR state iirc about their instapost.
No big name but an “honest face”. Guess what he says when they wave some $ notes and offer him to become “famous” in the knife community?
Who cares about a bad reputation when you can pay the rent with your hobby.
I certainly wouldn’t give a * about it, I just don’t have the design skills
Believe it or not, not everyone has the same views of intellectual property.
Just ask Samsung, Apple, car manufacturers, etc.

I’m not talking about everyone. I’m talking about independent knife designers.

Ivan Braginets from Ukraine did exactly the same. His first designs (Nettle , Apologist ) were released by Lovocoo , a well known Chinese cloner brand from Aliexpress. Now he’s working with WE Knife (Caliber), Real Steel (Relict, Havran, Gardarik) and Kizer ( Odin ).

What is an “independent knife designer”?
You could be one, I could be one, all you need is a pen and some paper to design anything.
You have a fix income, you’re independent, at least when it comes to design something. Easy as that.
I wouldn’t want to work as a meter maid, not even if I was female, still it’s ok if others earn their money with it.
