Then , you can buy the A6 driver from banggood …
That is 17 mm, and the D80 is 20 mm. There is not enough room under the retaining ring to use a 17-20 adapter ring. It is possible to mate the 17 mm driver with a partition disc. I have one I did that with. There is space in the head to do that… of course you need to sand down the diameter of the 177 mm in order to push it forward through the hole.
I know it’s 17mm , but with some modding he could do it as you described … :+1:
Thanks for your help, I have put a 17mm driver in for now that does fit, just not very well. I might be able to machine up an adapter ring.
I wanted Bistro UI in the BLF D80, so I soldered a 17mm driver from Mountain Electronics onto the top of the retaining ring. One of my lights has the long tube and I use unprotected cells so there was a tiny bit of room to spare.
I posted my ugly method in the “What did you mod today?” thread, then DEL pointed out that a 17mm driver will indeed stay put under the D80 retaining ring.
I tried DEL’s suggestion and it worked. Both of my D80s now run Bistro UI and have no visible PWM! :+1:
That’s my ugly mod on the left, and the “correct” way on the right.
For more info, start here at my post in the “What did you mod today?” thread. Hope this helps!
Thanks, that gives me confidence a 17mm although not ideal will work.
Hello everyone I tried to get a mtn-20ddm with attiny software in my light. 20mm is too big the stock driver that I took out was a 19.00mm. Well after taking a dremal to the driver I got it too fit. Now I can’t into programming, I click 16+ times and the light doesn’t go into programming modes. Could it be the switch causing the problem? Forward clickie vs reverse clickie?
For fwd tactical switches, you have to 1/2 click with the switch in the OFF position, then it should work.
The light has the stock switch is it a forward tactical switch? Maybe Iam doing it wrong. With light off I push the button all the way I hear a click release and the light turns on, it won’t turn on by just pressing the button.
I thought you were saying you had a fwd clickie. Sounds like a stock reverse clickie. For rev clickies, turn the light ON, then pressing half way should turn the light OFF, without making it click. Do these 1/2 clicks 16 times (at least) and see if it works. You don't want to fully click the switch because it's too slow - the 1/2 clicks are much quicker, easier to do, and should cycle power each time.
I have the same driver in a couple lights so I know the programming but Iam baffled why this is happening. I thought at first the switch was maybe different. Maybe the driver is bad?
Hhmm, dunno. I'd suspect the OTC cap, but dunno if regular mode changing is working for you or not.
I just noticed out of the 6 modes it has the first three modes look the same. So Iam guessing driver is bad. Thanks for your help Tom.
Quick question for those who have modded the D80 with XP-L HI, which centering ring did you used and how many kcd after modding?
I used a step drill on mine to widen the reflector opening to 9mm and used the convoy L2 9mm centering ring, now it has a more intense hotspot, however it is not defined. Sanding down the centering ring helps but still not quite happy with the beam…
Oh BTW, not sure if this is already known but the problem with these lights not drawing more than ~3.5A is because of the high vf XM-L2, I put a FET+1 on mine and it barely changed to 3.6A; the drivers were not the problem…
I got over a 1 amp increase in all three of my d80s with a driver change.
I have two with FET/DD drivers and they smoke. I measured the amps but forget the exact reading… big tho’………. something around 6 amps after 3- seconds. I think it peaked at 8 or so when first turned on with 30Q as the cell.
How are you reading the amps?? I used a clamp meter with a heavy gauge copper jumper in place of the tailcap.
I have no way to measure the lumens or kcd, but they are bright One uses a zener mod to run an XHP50, the other is the usual single cell.
Is there a code available for the 5a that is still in stalk? Also, anyone know if they plan to restock the others? I hope this light will not go out of production…
Are D80s still available?
t0d, check the links in the first post of this thread.
Here’s one of them: http://www.gearbest.com/blf-\_gear/
right now they’re all showing Out Of Stock
I’ve been checking but no joy. Is gearbest the only place D80s are sold ?
