From my experience, the drivers are most likely to be fine. The problem is the LED that they used. Once I replaced the LED with the ones I mentioned, the outputs are very reasonable. Especially for the 14500, it can draw over 1A to deliver about 300 lm. With the original LED, the current draw was much lower (about half?) using the same driver.

Not necessary. I found some of them are easy and some others are not. I am talking only about replacing LEDs. I found their drivers are fine, i.e., they can draw over 1.25A on 14500 in most of them.

The sk68 is a challenging host to start your modding carreer. Much easier is a Convoy tubestyle 18650 light for example.

I have had good experience with the LEDs from FastTech. For example this and this. These are 14mm ones that I used to mod these “600 lm” smaller flash lights. However, if you want to use on SK68, you can buy their 16 mm versions. They all at about $1.55 a piece.
I would safely say that they can give me over 100 lm (LED lumen) on AA and 300 lm on 14500.
The only issue I had with FastTech was their free shipping is very slow. Next time when I order, I will probably pay $1 more to get either a tracking number or USPS mail. I would say it will be worth it.

Thank you Sir. Ordered one. Only need to run off an Eneloop. If it provides decent result, those new garbage clones might still be worthwhile to purchase as hosts and add this led!

The only thing I don’t know is how good is the driver in your “SK68”. In my case, the tail current was about 1.6 - 1.8A with an Eneloop before mod.
I wish you the best luck. It’s only about $1.5 anyway.
