I am a night time dog activity enthusiast looking for some knowledge about UV/Blacklight/LED portable lights to make my life more fun and hassle free while charging my glow in the dark rubber balls, that I use with my dog. You may have seen these balls before, they are made by Chuck-It, and are simply rubber balls about the size of a baseball. They are hollow, but heavy enough to hit a long way. What I am using to charge them now, is little 9 LED Blacklight flashlights I got for about $10. It works fine, but cmon, it could always be better. I have looked at expensive UV torches, but want to hear some other ideas, before coughing up the money for a nice light. Anyone have any suggestions for charging these balls. Obviously, needs to be portable, and as compact as possible, but open to all ideas!! Thanks!
I use a cheapo UltraFire 501B host with an equally cheapo UV dropin to charge GITD fishing lures .
Welcome to the forum!
Does t require UV light to get them to glow?
You're going to love it here, bpeters14!
You’d probably get good results with a blue or blue-white LED, have you tried one?
Most GITD phosphors work with the blue light that’s the driver for “white” LEDs, there’s plenty of that in the cheap “white” LEDs.
Welcome bpeters14. I have 2 of those GITD Chuckit balls and use them almost every night with my dog. I just use whatever light I happen to grab, throw it on high, and it charges in about 2 seconds. If you’re outside just don’t look at it while you’re charging it or you’ll have a nice green spot in your vision. A UV light might be cool since you might not blind yourself, however, I really chuck that ball as far as it will go and like to see what my dog is up to if she decides not to come back right away. Plus, I just like shining something around while I’m standing there. Fun for both of us.
I’d be worried about having super-tan fingertips. Welcome to the nuthouse:)
