Glue Gun Recommendations (Solved)

I forgot to bring my glue gun from Korea so I was looking to get a new one.

I was surprised how expensive some stuff was here compared to in Korea, my full sized cheap glue gun was $4 (and as low as $2) but now amazon and eBay seem to want $15-20 for basically the same thing.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for hot melt glue guns? I’d prefer full sized, dual temperature, and dual voltage if that’s possible. Thanks!

I bought one at Michaels a month or so ago for $6. It is dual temp but not voltage. I have never seen a dual voltage one here.

Good Luck. Dan.

Thanks, was it this one? Mini Dual Temperature Glue Gun by Ashland® | Michaels

All the full sized ones seem to be over $10 though.

If you have a local HF, one of the widely distributed 20-25% coupons should work.

Edit: Oops, missed the part about full-size.

I just bought this one via ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/331263042512?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&\_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
It’s 20W dual voltage includes 10 glue sticks.

Thanks for your suggestions guys. Yeah, a full sized glue gun as opposed to a mini one would be great.

I know it's not that cheap at $49.99, but this Grizzly H8141 works incredibly well. It's 120 watts, heats up fast, and comes with case, 12 8" general purpose glue sticks, and 4 different tips /w wrench. I've had mine for about a year and it's been great.

Wow that does look very nice, especially the multi-tips. Unfortunately I can’t see myself spending that much money on a glue gun.

What’s the purpose of using having a dual temperature on multi-temp tips? Do higher temperatures make stronger bonds?
Also, are there glue sticks that only work on high temperature glue guns?

The only difference in the tips is the style, not temperature. The temperature is non adjustable. It's strictly a 120 watt heating element that will give you a higher rate of flow over less powerful models. That said, I'm very happy with the quality. I've had several glue guns over the past 40 years. This one rocks..BTW, there is only one review on this one it and it wasn't good. Unfortunately the guy got a defective one with a cracked heating engine causing glue to come out the sides of the housing. I'm sure it's not common. Mine works perfect, and so does a friend of mine who has the same one. He's had his for several years and I bought one because he recommend it to me. He a professional cabinet maker. I trust his opinions without question

Thanks for chiming in guys, I ended up getting this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/291149045943

It’s rated at 100W (questionable?) dual voltage, and temperature adjustable, although I think I’m going to set it at max for a quick warmup. I think setting it to a lower temperature actually limits the power output of the heating element, no the temperature itself so warming up would take much longer. I was about to get it at $11.00 shipped via eBay.

The glue gun arrived today, and I’m very happy with it and pleasantly surprised with the quality.

If anyone wants, I can do a mini-review of it, but it is highly recommended in my opinion.

hmm… what do you guys use glue guns for? it would be nice to have one maybe…but what are the specialtys for this type of glue. like if i wanted to epoxy two plastic or fiberglass or plexiglass.
or does it work good with fabric or metal….just curious.

I find it quite useful gluing down things that I don’t want to use cyanoacrylate based super glue on. It’s not strong enough to damage the surface if I want to redo or take it off later.

Keep in mind that the volume is considerably large compared to superglue or epoxy, so I don’t think it’s optimal for fiberglass or plexiglass.
It works well with metal and fabric as long as the surfaces are porous enough, but won’t be of a strong bond as superglue.

My glue gun came from Dollar Tree… for $1. Works well, but I only use it a couple times a year.

My nice hot air gun (used) cost me around $40 on Ebay. New, I found out it is over $1000…

Old thread but well…

Does anyone know fast heating glue gun?

My current one heats like 3-4 minutes (which is quite long).

I’m looking for glue gun that’s ready to work in 15-45s (from cold state, 30s would be great).

So far only found stanley fatmax with 60s heating time (which is long + was only reading about it so no actual test was performed).
