I just bought a bottle of salicylic acid (Dr. Shoals or something like that). I feel like I”m practicing medieval medicine
It’s the same stuff that’s used for warts, corns, and calluses. I had some climbing shoes that were too small last year and wore them for too long before getting the right size shoes.
I ended up with calluses (corns?) on the top joint of some of my toes. They never went away on their own so I just bought this product.
You can definitely feel a burn if you get it on skin that isn’t a callus!
Next, perhaps I’ll buy a good assortment of leeches and start to practice medicine!
Has anyone here ever used this product (salicylic acid)? I see that it also works on “skin tags” which is a tiny piece of unwanted/needed skin. I had one of those and used this product on that as well.
You can use this up to twice a day for 14 days. I’m just curious as to how fast it can work….several days? Anyone?
I tried that stuff on a wart at one point and it never really worked well. I forget what it is called but I used a cheese grater like device to get rid of it.
One can use it in higher concentrations (17% or greater) for 2-3 days before it started to erode adjacent tissues, then give it a break and wait until the majority of it’s keratolytic evidence has healed (may take a week or so.) Otherwise, it’s best to just apply it every few days to avoid any superficial erosion/skin slothing. However, if used in low concentrations of 2% or less, it can be applied daily for quite sometime without interruption.
Also, you may wanna keep the unused portion in the fridge tightly sealed. If it’s pure sal acid then it’ll oxidize and start turning pink after awhile, based on exposure to air.
I used to also, but haven’t in years now. Turns out that indiscriminate COX inhibition may not be such a good thing to do daily. Remember that celebrex scandal?
If you just wanna thin the blood you may consider replacing aspirin with something like Ginkgo or a little Fish Oil. Both work great as a substitute IME.
