Just won an ultrafire c8 q5 for £10.49 shipped (about $15.50).
We’ll see what arrives (was a last minute bid thing) as I didn’t even check the seller.
So any upgrade suggestions other than a 3+ amp xm-l? I fancy doing something different, hell on a whim I fancy building I light with an ssc p7, for no other reason than “why not” any other interesting alternavives greatly recieved, multi emitter/ obscure emitter. Just keep it budget, maybe even keep the q5 and a driver/reflector swap?
Basically, treat it as a learning light, what do we think?
And please, feel free to say "stick an xm-l **bin with this 3 mode driver if its interesting enough
don't mean to rain on your parade, but that is about average for a q5 c8
you can actually find some t6 c8 for that price if you look.
Ah well, no worries, I’m still made up to get a decent size light for a tenner, providing it turns up, I’ve done ok on eBay (well ok, I’m happy and had low expectations) and the delivery times have been very very quick although I’ve not yet tried manafont etc. The seller I have not seen before, so we’ll see, I won’t be crying even if its a hollow pill copy (dad has a lathe at home…) More interested in mod suggestions tbh and like I say, I fancy exploring outside the usual 3a xm-l just for interests sake, I’d struggle to get a bare host for a tenner and I want to learn. Soldering is no issue, I served my time as an electrical assembler and have both cheap irons I use now and a variable temp station, so its more a free reign project light H)
Be happy then, gords :)
SSC or MC-E - will be a nice flood light.
Flood is good, I have a thrower on the way in the same form but two cell that sounds awesome, but for practical use a floody light is more my bag - I tend to use a light in a head strap under vehicles or inside cramped refrigerated boxes (very reflective) there really is such a thing as too much light, even from a piss poor 3aaa zoomy :~ so this does not need to be a lumen monster, more an interesting project. I already have lights to wow none flashaholic’s, my xm-l bike light springs to mind, this is more about learning the craft than anything :cowboy_hat_face: J)
Get a good battery and a driver that will run the q5 good and hard or tint swap
Get one of the new Nichia 219 high CRI LEDs and a custom Nanjg 1.5A driver for it.
Any links johnny? >)
I’ve ordered some “torchy” 2800mah protected cells, so with my two limp fires (came with an ultrafire xm-l 2 cell zoomy), the two cells heading my way inside a modded trustfire tr1 from vickers214, I at least have some options. I also have a xenon spiderfire x-550, that’s two cell (killed the cells due to lack of experience/instruction), its looking like I have a thing for 42mm reflectors…
It’s arrived. 8) seems to be in reasonable nick, was well protected, didn’t realise how small it is. Going to do a strip down tomorrow, see if the pills hollow or not.
My 18 month old loves it.
So sorry for the delayed response, Gords. I haven’t been on much the last few days.
I got mine Nichias from Craig @ Illumination supply. I’m sure he can ship to you but maybe you can find some closer to you.
For the drivers, hit up E1320 for some sweet 6 modes or Dr Jones for one of his great customs with modes and variable output.
Johnny
Didn’t think e1320 could do international shipping? I did wonder about something we do on difflock - someone wins something on eBay collection only, someone nearby collects it and moves it on up the country to the next kind soul and so on.
So if I pay pal e1320, he ships to someone who can do international, I PayPal them the shipping cost and beer tokens, they ship to me in England? 8)
Apart from the blinkies, I like the little bugger, didn’t realise how small it would be, and my little boy loves waving it about.
Did you see my post on a 3 x AAA that takes an 18650? Side clicky host with a Cree emitter, I’m thinking its a possible mod host, and I’m fairly loving Asda (wall mart) for it 8)
Well, the pills not hollow, so its game on for modding. Think I’ll hit up e next month with the shipping idea

Good seller but I’ve not checked their other items
