Great performance tonight by 2 budget throwers. A couple of friends and I went out visiting 2 farms here in NZ tonight, and we showed the farmers our latest lights including the Maxtoch SN6X-2 aka STL-V2. As soon as they switched it on they both immediately wanted to buy them!!
We then shone the Maxtoch across the farm flats and it just picked out a very distant house … later googled at a range of 893 meters, or 977 yards. Far beyond its shooting range, but very impressive.
And very interesting also that the little Jacob A60 also picked up the house at 893m. This is an impressive wee single 18650 light – has nothing like the beam width/power of the Maxtoch which is a spotlight on a stick, but amazing at just $14.70 delivered.
I do not doubt the Maxtoch SN6X-2/STL-V2 in these pitch black conditions would just pick out the house at 1 kilometer, or 1100+ yards, and the A60 will also top out over the 1000 yards.
Bear in mind this is testing in perfect conditions - no moon, pitch black on a flat farm with zero ambient light influence - just stars. I think the target house is a white one at the 977 yards, and all of the guys (4) could see it at that distance with naked eye.
It was a perfect opportunity to test near extreme distance for these lights, and both could do a bit more - the Maxtoch/STL-V2 slightly further than the A60 Jacob.
At almost 1000 yards all 4 men could make out the house, and 50m away from it a big shed. Totally invisible in the dark, the buildings showed as though in the faintest moonlight with the lights - but visible to all.
Extreme distance estimate for Jacob A60 - 1000 yards.
Estimate for Maxtoch SN6X-2/Skyray STL-V2 - 1100-1150 yards.
Might just have created a new category or two….extreme distance testing, and the 1000 yard club!!
I wish I lived on a farm, or had access to one.
Where I live there is loads of light pollution, and the sky never really goes pitch black. It’s always slightly illuminated. So for me I can only just pick out dark trees at around 240 meters.
Yes, exactly. I live in a highly-urbanized country and it’s near-impossible to ‘see’ the full potential of my lights.
I was in Indonesia last month and walked through a really dark patch of road. I had my SC600 with me and….Wow! It simply lit up the whole place
All the more reason to feel good about my purchases. Ha Ha!
Maxtoch is a Chinese company that makes good quality lights for police, army, search & rescue etc. They are an OEM (original equipment manufacture) company, and other companies buy their product and rebrand it, eg as Skyray. And some companies copy/clone their torches - often without the same quality control or electronic/driver standard e.g. Uniquefire, Marsfire etc.
Maxtoch a very good company to deal with. Here’s their site:
and here’s a link to buy the Maxtoch SN6X-2 (aka Skyray STL-V2) via Aliexpress:
I am a security guard lets get that out of the way for the background of the story. I got assigned to this high risk account in mesa AZ it is a huge parking lot that is abandaded the client want a foot patroll every hour so I had my Fenix tk70 with me that night so as I was in the car I said I can see everything with the tk so i stuck out the car window and flashed around so i do not have to get out and walk it there was a p police helicopter in the area and saw the big bright light and the area I was in had no lights so the helicopter tactical officer thought it was odd and caalled in 8 cop cars to check it out I was in my car and 8 of them converged on me with lights and sirens I was I am not going lie I was scared they had weapons I did not so they worded me out of the car and when they saw my security shirt they stood down thank god I then said I think this is a little excessive for 8 of you they replied it was a slow night I then asked so what or called you hear I was doing nothing they said it was the helicopter tactical officer that called it when saw your light light up the whole parking lot and building I had to do a ton of paperwork for that so that is my funny cop light story sorry for the spelling I am doing it on my phone
Hi, yesterday with a friend we tested again my crelant 7G5 V1 with fully charged AW 18650. There was a lot of humidity in the air, however, we reached 400+ meters of range. At that distance with naked eye we coudn’t see almost anything smaller than a car with reflective plates or a big house with white walls that contrast against the green of the woods.
With the Predator we achieved less results, around 150 meters (200 usually without humidity).
At 150 meters it wasn’t easy to spot a almost brown fox in the grass (Except for the eyes) with the 7G5.
So I was wondering how the Skyray-Maxtorch which seems to have around the same size reflector of my 7G5 and a less performing emitter (T6 vs U2) could perform better, a LOT better.
Most of the reason it performs better is because of the near perfect condition it was tested in. When I achieved 700 yards that was on a moonless night from one mountain to another in the middle of nowhere.
