green led lights and scams

So I'm browsing the colored led market and notice this guy selling some ultrafire clones for 150. Total rip off...I wonder if he gets any sales?

And wait there's more;

Sounds like ExtremeBeam all over again....

What I like about some of these resellers is that they do not list what emitter it has. Is it just me or is the emitter just something of passing interest?

Maybe I should get a site and charge $100 for an L2/UF XM-L "Foylight." One would probably get left on under somebody's couch and burn the house down.

FoyFire?

I've been thinking of taking a bunch of those usa168s to a gun show w/ green and red leds in them. I couldn't sleep if I charged $150 - w/ an emitter swap and pressure tail switch they'd cost, what ~$40?!

Looking for a red/green hunting light brought me to this forum. About once a month someone like yourself (less than 2% of FL users) comes looking for a better colored hunting light. You will find a ton of advice and most of it is pure BS. I am sure you have searched the net and seen all the claims by some guy named ”BIG DITTY” with a super gizmo colored led crazy claim OVER PRICED flashlights. Just about all of them use the same Cree emitter that is used in the cheap DX color flashlight. I did use a generic DX ultrafire SKU 20331 (says luxeon but now comes with Cree XRE green) with an upgraded AMC7135 1400ma driver and an aspheric lens and it was good for 100yds+. Ahorton aspheric lenses are among the best on P60 platform. Used the same type light on a crosbow (no aspheric but w/driver mod) and it was good to 50yds. The SST90 RED/GREEN and PT54 color emitters are a far superior. The Luminus PT series copper bases and are made for heavy duty use for devices like DLP projectors and televisions. I have build a novelty PT120 green led 25A 2500lm+ aspheric lens from a 4D Maglite with a copper heat sink and mosfet switch. Heat and short battery life make this combination unpractical but fun. Always looking for a better RED light flashlight. Currently working on this https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/7731

My general belief is that anything hyper-www-marketed as "tactical" is going to be way over priced for what it physically (italicized for emphasis) is. The term is grossly over-used as an empty punchline for marketing and selling consumer products. Flashlights are no exception to this.

On my last gun show visit, I found a dealer with a Generic-host XR-C(!)-emitter P60 light for $150. I had no reservations about pointing it out to my friend and showing him how it compared to my $24 MF XM-L equipped 504b I had in my pocket at the time...

Yeah... I hate (that word is not one I use often on forums, but in this case its the only one that fits) the Cree "C" emitters. Both XRC and XPC are cree products that should be avoided at any cost. Its another layer of marketing deception... they'll print "CREE" on the product packaging, in reality those are two of the least efficient emitters in the lineup. I have one XPC and one XRC light... and thats too many for me. In hindsight it was $$$ wasted... my thinking at the time was heck its a Cree emitter... how bad can it be?

The same way willie found this site is exactly the way i found it. I was looking for a green light flashlight to mount either to a gun or a bow or both. Started reading around and found a great site that has cost me quite a bit of money.....lol

Do you think that they are just running a colored cree?

I thought maybe they were using the sst-90 in green or the pt led's, but couldn't figure out how they could do it with on a single 18650 especially since they are saying 2 - 2.5 hours of run time. They actually have come down in price at $188 for light, batteries, and charger if memory serves me correct I think they were around $225-$250 not very long ago.

I think i might could sleep at around $100 though......... $) $) $)

I have some of these green leds on order from Manafont.

If they ever get here I am going to make some P-60 drop ins to sell if anyone is interested about $28. This is still an unknown emitter. I trust Manafont won't sell junk emitters but I still need to test these for max amp draw versus max output and compared to an XRE R2 which is the gold standard for hunting drop ins I make now.

I purchased am Insight MX6 100 lumen incandescent light with laser for over $300 before I found this forum. Now I see the Chinese DX etc have an Led 200 plus lumen knockoff that I am sure is identical for $30 bucks.

Anything weapon related gets the typical uncle sam mark up in case the government takes interest the seller can reap the reward of the six hundred dollar toilet seat. Don't laugh it is why you see all these ridiculously marked up prices on weapon mounted anything.

The average 18650 is ~2.3Amp-Hours so in order for it to sustain a 2 hour run time the light circuit can draw no more than ~1.15A. It will need to be even less current draw to reach a 2.5 hour run. So... yeah they could use an XML, SST50... even an SST90 in a design like this, it would just be very under-driven.

Kind of points to an green XR-E at best. Although SST90 come in green, SST50 & XM-L don't come in green. What is needed is XM-Ls in red and green.

sure would make things a lot easier!

I would be in heaven if they put green or red in an XM-l

I picked up a green xre from solarforce via lighthound for 11 bucks. (same price as solarforce-sales.com). It's a decent drop in with plenty of throw for being an orange peel reflector. Pretty decent drop-in with run-time claims of about 3.5 hours on an 18650.

My bare Green Manafont emitters are still on the slow boat from China well over a week late. Any chance you could post some beam shots compared to an XRE and take some amperage reading? Please.

Finally got out in the field this weekend with this generic green drop-in and was very impressed it was zip tied to the stabilizer on the bow and that just happend to put it in a perfect spot for shooting. There was no problem with being able to shoot 40 yards or more with this light. http://www.manafont.com/product_info.php/generic-green-beam-mode-led-dropin-module-3718v-p-7804

Installed it in a SF L2 with an aspherical lens and it was quite nice formed a perfect bright circle. If i had a blacked out reflector it probably would have even been alot nicer. Pretty impressed with everything overall

Now i want a longer range green thrower for the rifle shooting. Hopefully by September i can make this happen..

These look like the same flashlight as the sniperhawg ones
