green/red Laser review

Hello my friends!

usually i write about flashlights - but todayi do something different…

today i tested a

Banggood sent me this one “(shoplink)”:http://www.banggood.com/LT-HJ-532nm-650nm-Green-and-Red-Laser-Pointer-1mw5mw-2AA-p-953734.html

and i got what was promised (not usual in some Chinashops ;))

backside of package and safety instructions

a look inside with the second set of batteries - the delivered ones worked fine! (more later)

the Pointer

its made from athin aluminium tube with a rubber-ish coating

but at some points it starts to come off

the batterie side - since the positive tip touches the bottom there is no spring needed

the driver side - there is some foam to protect the electronics…

the bright end

the red diode is the one on the outside - the green is hiding inside the Pointer

the “caleidoscope” lens easy screws on top

only the blank ring has threads - the part with the knurling freely rotates (and make it a bit hard to mount the lens

BEAMSHOTS!

Kaleidoskop

my thoughts:

this item is NO TOY!
keep away from children and stupid people!!

its very bright!! (rated 5mA - consumes 300mA from Alkaleaks!)
a friend (experienced with lasers) thinks 150-200 mA of output

due to bad focus or cheap lens it cant burn anything…
(ecept retinas i am sure!)

the Laser has 4 modes:
(off) - GREEN - RED - GREEN + RED - GREEN + RED flashing - (off)
the button cycles through them…

unfortunately the laser has no ON/OFF switch - i managed to accidentally switch it on in my pocket. thats why the first set of batteries emptied

feels not bad in the hand - the rubber-ish coating is nice

now all we need is the red green version.with duct tape finish.

+10

Yes, particularly green “5mW” lasers are usually much higher (overspec) then 5mW. They mark them as “5mW” in order to sell to the usa. Over 5mW aren’t allowed for commercial sale (unless its only the laser diode / laser parts). Also the way green is made the power level of each one varies unless they are very exact when assembling or adjust it after.
