Several years ago I bought a Fenix E21 because I needed a light for….well….just because I wanted one. Since then my wife thinks I’ve gone way overboard on flashlights. Since that first buy I’ve bought within the year:
Flashlights
Tank007 E09
Shiningbeam Caveman
Shiningbeam Spark (with a 1AA tube for 14500’s)
ShiningBeam Blaze (well…what good is a Xtar WP2 II if one doesn’t have a 18650 light)
Zebralight H502
Fenix LD10
Rayovac 2AA Indestructible
Trustfire Z2
Convoy M1
Convoy S2
Convoy C8
Chargers
Xtar WP2 II
Miller ML102
Nitecore I2
Sony BCG34HRE4KN NiMH
GP Recyko usb charger
Goal Zero Solar Panel plus battery pack
Oh well….flashlights are like guns….can’t have too many of them
BTW…we’re (4 of us) going to Peru and Africa this year for probably 3 weeks each. I’m thinking of bringing a light for each of us plus 2 backups. I’m leaning toward the Trustfire, Spark with the 1AA tube, Convoy S2 and Shiningbeam Blaze. The backups would be the Tank007 E09 and Rayovac. Along with that the Nitecore I2, GP, and Miller chargers. Plus 2 spare 18650s, 2 spare 14500’s, and 10 spare Enloops (2 are AAA). And 3 headbands for the lights. Power might be spotty but I’m fairly certain we’ll have several hours of power each day to charge everything.
Your trip sounds like a blast. I guess pack light is always good advice. If you can fit everything into backpacks that always helps. Pack everything you plan to take ahead of time and actually walk around with your packs on for a day to make sure it’s comfortable. Lugging luggage around can make you miserable and actually make you miss out on a lot of things too. As for lights it sounds like you have a good assortment.
I would take lights I knew I could get replacement batteries for easily (like AA), in case some are confiscated by airport staff, or lost or stolen. I don’t know how likely this is though, but better to cover all eventualities.
Budgetlightforum is a great place. In 2 years of lurking I found it to be full of extremely knowledgeable and friendly addicts….oooops….I meant people
Being able to use commonly available batteries is definitely high on my list. The H502 and LD10 would be my among my choices but they’re already in Africa with one of my kids. Maybe I’ll bring the Caveman and E21 instead of the Convoy and Blaze.
Wish I had I had the Zebralight. Hummm…if I order now I can get one in time for the trips
