Hopefully I can learn something here, I sure dove into the deep end deciding to do a little LED project with not much prior electrical experience. Last night I was doing a crash course on thermal design, not I’ve gotta try and learn how to read circuit diagrams and how that all works!
Just planning out some custom lighting for a motorbike project I’ve got going. May be a little while before I actually start on anything, but just trying to understand things at this stage.
I was into electronics kits as a kid, never got to anything too adventurous though, but since then I haven’t done anything electronics related. So I’ve spent bits of my spare time over the last month or so learning about LEDs, electrical circuits in general and thermal design. Would never have even been remotely interested in that stuff if it wasn’t for the application with motorbikes. Pretty sure I chose the wrong career… I have worked as a graphic designer and now bookkeeper - should have just started off as a motorcycle mechanic! I just get amped for anything motorbike related! :bigsmile:

Well it actually had the dirt rear wheel, but on the return leg of my 2,000-odd-kilometer trip to pickup the bike I stopped off and picked up a used set of motard wheels, fitted the rear to make sure it would go, no point putting the dirt rear back in just for a “before” picture.
I’m making custom body panels all around, which is taking quite a bit of time! The first milestone is just to get the bodywork and paint done then get it ready as a track bike. But eventually I want to have it street legal. The plan is for LEDs everywhere, integrated rear indicators and brake light virtually hidden away in a little gap under the rear fender. For the headlight unit, well I’m going to try and put together some lights that will work, but not 100% sure how that will come out. I will just fall back on a good old fashioned incandescent bulb if all else fails, but will still be planning for integrated front indicators in the headlight unit.
So - that is why I’ll probably be needing help with lights and electronics in general!
Edit - I forgot to mention that I have actually already done a little LED side project. I put together a few lights to use in my work area/temp spray booth, they’re working well! But I kind of cheated on those and bought 2W LEDs that had integrated drivers, so I didn’t have to do anything but connect power. Haha.
Dude...with the projects and kits doing the rounds here, that bike will light up the surrounding bush like daylight. Trust me - once the bug has bitten, you'll want more power and more light than you ever thought you'd need
Mugget. You need to start a new thread on this build, please. We need to know not only about your led’s but also the rest off your mods on the bike. Is it a 250 or 300?
