I’ve learned a lot from like-minded folks on this forum so I went ahead an joined.
I am mostly interested in lights from a camping/backpacking perspective and adhere 100% to the frugal philosophy. I want the best gear possible for the least amount of money.
A couple of years ago I decided to try and standardize on a single battery type for backcountry trips. I went with AA since that is what my GPS takes. I purchased a Fenix HL20 headlamp and an iTP A2 EOS light.
Recently I purchased a steripen for water treatment that takes CR123s. Well now that I need to take the batteries and back-ups also I started looking in that direction which lead me here.
I was looking for a battery vampire to use up the CR123s after use in the steripen, but the price and extras pushed me over the edge. I am waiting on my first purchase a new-10B from DX that came with rechargeable battery and charger.
My wife runs a small photography studio and I am her tech support so batteries, especially rechargeables (AA and AAA), and chargers are also of interest…
Welcome linuxhack! Fellow linux fan. What do you use?
Are you already using good LSD (low self discharge) nimh AA, AAA like eneloop?
This dx new-10b? Don't see an included charger or battery. If your new to Li-ion batteries you might want to read up on safety. One issue is some chargers will overcharge (over 4.2v) which is hazardous.
I use quite a few linux servers at work, but OS X on my desktops. I started using that name several years ago and was thinking more along the self-degrading lines of hack=>wannabe (golf hack) as opposed to “hacker”=>proficient.
I have just a couple eneloops that I keep for myself. My wife uses a mixture of Monster, Energizer, Tenergy nimhs and a couple cheap wall chargers (Monster, Energizer). I think some are starting to go bad so it is time to look at a better charger and batteries…
