I checked this thread for the first time at the right moment to see the finished product. Nice work! I love the polished body and the deep fins in the copper heat sink.

I haven’t seen anyone mill on a lathe like that. It makes sense in a way, even if it seems a bit sketchy. Good job making the most of the tools you have.

Do you trust the fake Vishay MOSFET on the stock HL driver?
I have heard from drivers with its being dead after some use

The marking on my sample was fake the electrical measurements shown terrible values
compared to original Vishay SIR800 which is still worse than the Infineon

The LEDs are pulling 12amp in high and 30amp in turbo and I also have some vishay MOSFETs from mouser to replace it. For now it is Ok but eventually I will replace it with one of yours. I will contact you soon as I need some other drivers for different builds.

Doesn’t that depend on which Infineon? The 404 is a better performer than the 800, the best Infineon gives slightly better yields than a 404, depends on the light they’re all in just how much you can actually measure, much less see in real world use. The cells still rule the day…

Following the paper trail (specs) is always much different than actual in hand results.

I have finally finished the light. there are some things I would do different and it needs new reflectors because the ones in it are scratched. But it works and for the time being no more changes will be made.

I will get beam shots and take measurements on the weekend

It matters when you are at 80% FET for example, you got also switching losses that add up to conduction losses
This is what does the fake MOSFET likely die it overheats, or at lest significantly heat up the driver

It turned out quite the beast. That was wild how you made the copper heatsink with plates like that, and then you sectioned it with the flats, which made it look fancy. Good work.

Thanks it was something I want to build wasnt exactly what I had envisioned but I am happy with how it came out.
