I’m not really looking to build a “monster” out of mine either and intended from the very beginning to use an MT-G2 in my build, as evidenced by my repeated insistence throughout for the extension tube. I didn’t know at the time that it had been done before, but honestly there’s only so many emitters out there so there’s bound to be some overlap I guess. I wanted that MT-G2 for a couple of reasons, namely that I freakin’ love them for their tint and broad output profile, but also because the square die projection from zoomies bugs me. I kinda hoped it would come out more round than KawiBoy’s beamshots indicate, but the hex shape is still a big improvement over square, in my opinion. And I really don’t trust my skills to properly utilize something odd like the actually-round SBT emitters without screwing it up. So MT-G2 it is, for my build.
I haven’t settled on a driver yet though. It would be easy to just zener-mod another FET+1 with A6 or Bistro firmware and call it done, but I’d rather use something regulated in this light. Any suggestions? I considered a MtnMax and may go that route, but I think it would only give me about 5 amps max, about 2700 lumens according to djozz’s testing. That’s still a lot of light, especially in an aspheric, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a bit…more. Thoughts anyone?
