I just got a Sunwayman V11R Mirage set and I absolutely love it. It is a total toss up between this light and the JETbeam RRT-01 as my favorite EDC light. I just received a Noctigon XM16 MCPCB with an XM-L2 T6 3C already flowed onto it and I am trying to decide which of the 2 lights it should go in. I have never modded a light before and I am probably going to test my skills on a XinTD before I break either of these open, but I was curious if anybody has swapped the emitter on the V11R or has disassembled the head and knows if the LED is mounted on a 16mm star like the RRT-01 or if it is more difficult to mod.
I tried modding my V10a, which I think uses the same internals as the V11r.
Unscrewing the bezel didn’t work. Unlike the RRT-01, the star isn’t accessible just from removing the bezel and reflector. The head of the light flares out behind the reflector and covers the star.
As far as I can tell, the only way to replace the emitter is to actually unscrew the threadlocked threads directly below the magnetic ring that hold the head together. I couldn’t figure out how to do this, so ended up giving up on the attempted mod.
It’s possible to mod the V11r. People have done it. But I believe it to be much harder to mod than the RRT-01.
Thanks guys for the replies. I think I’m just gonna mod the RRT-01. I agree that the Sunwayman probably isnt worth the effort as there would probably not be any gain in lumens.
See here, V11R has exactly the same head estructure than V10R, M11R, M10A, V10A, and M10R. I have taken apart the head of my Mirage and it was not specially dificult using tape or rubber as protection of the anodized.
My V11R was stuck real hard with tread lock. Thought those thin wall would crack, but it went fine. I used those Biltema strap wrenches in the pic above.
