Saw some nice videos
Yes and no. My son and I are doing a few from knife blanks. One will have the handle changed (the tang is too short) the other will have the blade reshaped.

on another site? there’s a member who got into it. Next thing you know? he retired, and decided to make his own forge and everything. He has a business making custom knives for people. He’s made a few knives for other site members, and, everyone raves about them. I guess there’s nothing quite like the perfect custom knife to use in your hand.
i wouldnt know? all my knives say “made in pakistan”, which despite what i believe or have been told? does NOT seem to be latin for “highest quality”, lol.
it seems to be an absorbing and rewarding fabricating hobby. i was talking about “that guy” making knives? i found outmy neighbors nephew makes knives. he described how he made a “knife forge” out of a old rear brake drum and made a hand bellows to feed it forced air. apparently, that works well for him.
here in Germany there is a small company which makes knives from old german tanks
main guns barrels folded in sandwich with armor plating steel from tanks if i remember right
those steels are pretty much the best you can get they say
As long as you are checking out knife making videos don’t miss out on Walter Sorrell’s videos. He has a great series of videos giving suggestions on how to start out, bare minimum equipment up to the big dollar equipment he uses to make the knives he sells.
I like watching knife makers on YouTube also. Ive been looking out for a old anvil and am piecing together a diy charcoal forge. It looks like it would be a fun hobby.
torch cut a chunk of old rail line? that was my plan…
but using machines you can operate with only one hand
Here’s a site that follows a guy becoming a knife maker. 2011 to now.

I would if I had a belt sander. Obviously I also don’t have a forge or any other tools. youtube really is a good source of inspiration, I have seen knives come out of axes, files, random metal pieces, and more.
I’ve made a few from old railroad spikes. Been working on one from a piece of steel stock that’s been kicking my butt. I have a forge that i built from some scrap steel that uses coal and most of the grinding work is done with either a bench grinder or a file. The knife I’m working on now is solely being made with no machines, except for drilling the holes for the pins in the scales. I will try to remember to post some pictures of the ones I’ve made when I get home from work. It’s a very rewarding hobby and really the best advice I can give is just do it! Get out there and make mistakes, it’s the best way to learn!
I am working on making a belt grinder, but honestly don’t let that stop you! There’s a guy on youtube called Gough Custom and he has a filling jig made from some wood and a hand file that he uses to make a damn good looking knife with no power tools needed. That’s how I’m making my current project. All hand tools.
I made one in prison… but ended up giving it to a fellow inmate ……. 37 times .
Did he appreciate all your work ?
Only the first 36 times.

Has anyone here tried to make his own knife?
Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.
I have heard of people make then out of old files here in the us . The old steel is better than new stuff apparently.
Rambo made one out of a leaf spring I hear?
Old steel is better than modern steel.
